Are there any alternatives to Sun Java? I am totally fed-up with Sun Java's malware-ish behaviour.
I almost uninstalled it, but then I remembered OpenOffice, I like to use it sometimes. Ah wait, I wonder if the portable version needs a JRE installed? Worth a try...
Anyway, I'm looking for an alternative JRE (java runtime environment). I seem to recall some hoofera quite some time ago over MS distributing one?
Or is there a virtual java virtual machine? ;) I have had enough of Sun.
Oh wait... I undrstand Sun recently open-sourced Java? Are there any non-malware forks yet? If not, there needs to be one. Kind of like Iron is to Chrome.
I want a Java installation that does what it is told. (I'd rather nobody wrote anything in Java of course... But since I want to use OpenOffice...)

There is a Java Protable..

This way you don't have to have it installed at all. Plus, Java Portable launcher (launches Java apps in a protable fashion):
