How does the idea of having a strategy series of clips for SFC sound? So far, I have a short (3-minute) clip about the Saber Dance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PEowW5ZSnQ
I am planning on making a few more clips for the Photon Peel and for phaser-boating. On Gamespy, there are always some newer players willing to learn, so maybe videos of these tactics would help get and keep more people playing (I know that I enjoyed it a lot more once I learned that there was a different level to the game).
Any ideas on how to make these clips more successful? Is the quality good enough so far, and are there any classic strategies that I need to cover?

first timw watching notes- really good! Nice concise run-through of the sabredance. My first comment would be to add sound and/or music. What're using to capture the video? Adding some music would make it a bit more exciting but not critical.

Thanks for the kind words! I am using a program called FRAPS to record. Yeah, it is a little bland without any sound. Maybe having sound effects on but the game music off would work, and then adding in some other music.

I've been meaning to look into FRAPS for my pc, (my old mac uses Snapz which doesn't capture sound). I like the idea of capturing sound effects and adding your own music ("Ride of the Valkyrie" anyone?).
Another 2 cents - as a long time player I like watching your battle management of power, capacitor settings, etc., but the tactical demo for noobs doesn't cover that. Instead of recording a game "live," you could use the film room as playback to record - that'll slide the MFD off screen and give you that side of the image to type out the tactical notes. Just a thought.

The film room playback sounds like a good idea. My only problem is that Windows Movie Maker doesn't really let you choose where to put the subtitles, so I couldn't put text there even with the nice empty space. But maybe Youtube's annotation creator would be a way around that...

Looks cool, music would also be a plus.

Thanks for the help, I followed both of your ideas and have another clip, this time for the Plasma Ballet:

My only concerns are that there might be overwhelming text, and that the music doesn't match the race!

Not bad Roy.

I think it looks good with the full screen, and I love the ST3 music.
Only minor quibble is that some of the text doesn't stay on screen very long, esp the earlier ones. Just a few seconds longer would be good, as long as there's a second or two of blank between new titles.
(sorry, that's my day job coming thru. Really, this video was great.. On your suggestion I'm going to try out the Gorn BC next time out)
-
Good JOB....Looks cool....
-
Thanks again. Really, all suggestions are helpful. I switched around some of the text and made most of them longer, hopefully it's less rushed now. Now I just have to not be lazy and make another one...

Would you like an actual opponent for these?
-
Yeah, that would be fun. :)
-
OK. I'm pretty clogged up right now, but let me know when would be good for you and we can choose the senarios you want to record and set up a time.

Nice vid with sound.

Don't worry about it, I'm a little busy too, and I don't know how many more of these I was planning on making anyways.

Looks good. What kind of camera did you use and maybe do a Fed. one?I found this to be interesting.

If you would like some voice overs I could help with that. Maybe I'll work you up a sample sometime. Might help with the text times, and not having to focus on reading while watching the battle play out.

Next time you want to film a match let me know.... I will be on this weekend.

Good clips however what super ship or mod are you using as it definately seemed to me that you only needed 2 weapons and toasted everyship with one volley. Not realistic but pointers are always good.

1. He's using 4.0.
2. You're exaggerating the type of damage he's doing
3. the reason he's not taking much in return is because he's using the ai as an opponent, and he has it flying a monitor which has no speed.
