Title: A free and possibly useful utility
Post by: toasty0 on August 07, 2005, 11:26:02 pm
From the ReadMe file:

Thanks for downloading this little utility app I threw together.

You will need to be running a Microsoft OS with the .Netframework  v1.1 installed. If you do not have the Framework installed you can go to http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us for the latest and greatest update which includes the .Net framework.

What this app does: It checks your dsiplay adapter and drivers and lists the information for you. It's great to see if you have the needed software and driver versions for a particular game. It also generates a list of which display parameters are supported on your system.

I hope you find this little utility useful. If you have any suggestions or comments please drop me an email at Toasty0@cox.net

Sincerely,
Jerry

Enjoy!

Love the icon!  ;D

But I got an error on this system: ECS G730 laptop with a Radeon Mobility 7500, Catalyst Mobility driver (v6.13.10.6025). Error dialog and dxdiag report attached.

(.net v1.1 sp1 installed - on XP pro SP2)

Interesting. I was reading this morning about some OpenGL and DX conflicts with OGL based cards.

Thanks for looking at it, Bonk.

Hmm, this is really odd. An MSDN search of this error calls this result: http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?qu=Process+id%3d0x5b4&View=msdn&st=b&c=0&s=1&swc=0

Welp, version 0.1beta is done. Hopefully I've addressed Bonk's issue (fingers crossed). I've added another function that some of you I'm sure will find useful while others will see it as exciting as watching paint dry. Never the less, if you could give this a whirl or two I'd really appreciate it.

Damn man, I got an error now also...

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id=0x141c(5148), thread id=0x1664(5732).

Click ok to terminate blah blah.

BTW , how do I get a screen shot into paint again, I completly forgot.

On your keybaord you should have a key marked print screen. Press that then open your graphics proggy and paste.

You get an error eh? This sucks.

That's right, I knew the Print screen but I forgot about CTRL-P. Stupid me.

Anywho, If it helps, I have an ATI X800 pro w/ 256 MB ddr ram on the card.

Dont have that PC here now (its a laptop) but I'll test it on it when I get a chance. I'll run it on my ASUS TUV4X - Matrox G450 now...

Bonk--

Good news. Thanks.

Steve--

I'm going to have to sniff around and see. While you're doing that can you check to see if you have hardware accelaration on, and if so, it is set to max?

Also, are you running any virus software in the background? If so, can you tell me the who what where of it?

And lastly, are you running any videos or other graphic intensive app while launching this utility?

Thanks for the hand. It's a long ways off, but this is a tiny and simple step toward making a game engine (If I don't crack up working with this math intensive coding first).

You know come to think of It, I do use UltraMon for my dual monitor set up. Let me play around with my settings and see what happens.

OK, I tested that version on the laptop with the Radeon 7500 Mobility. It worked A-OK.
(Works fine on my Matrox G450 as well.)

Thanks Bonk. I'm gonna do more UI work on it in the next week or two (after a bit more work on my site and the screenwriting software), then I'm moving on to more game engine stuff.

Of course that is if I can resist Microsoft's attempt at recruiting me to start another .Net User's Group in Las Vegas. They're buying me dinner at Ceaser's Palace tomorrow night...no matter what I decide I get a free meal out of it.

Steve and Sky,

Talked about the error we're getting at our programmers meeting last night and we all came to the same conclusion. Sadly I'm going to have to kill you both...oh wait, that wasn't it. Oh yeah, after taking my meds we concluded that I'll need to write in a bunch of error trapping tripe. So in about the year 2025 (if man is still alive) I should have another version with all the error trapping tripe ready for running...

Bawahahahaha....

Ok, let's see if we can narrow down where this error is occurring. I have implemented some very broad error catching. Hopefully this will cause a message to be displayed telling us in which method is causing this error.

Thanks for all your help with this guys.

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id=0x950 (2384), Tjread od=0x954 (2388).

Click OK to terminate the application.

Click Cancel to debug the application.

Actually it did not trap the error we though it would. Means back to the drawing board to try to firgure out why you are getting a threading error for something that is not using threads.

I may have to do a stack trace. I'll let you know if that is what I'm going to make it do next. Gotta talk with a couple folks first.

Thanks again for your help.
