Title: The General War
Post by: FPF-Bach on August 17, 2004, 03:32:09 pm
Where can I find SFB history detailing the General War as well as other conflicts?

Any help is appreciated.

http://www.starfleetgames.com/sfb/sfin/general_war.htm

has the only history online that I know of. I don't know if there's any "real" history provided for stuff like the ISC invasion and/or the Andromedans.

~It's actually kinda a weakly written history as well. Feds are weak at the start then after a bit they can do no worng-all mistakes are made by the coalition side or Federation allies.

Here is one link:

I thought S'cipo had a page on it but I can't find it anymore.

That's from a captain's log article. And it is missing a lot of things - it's only a brief overview.

They printed 2 scenario books that, between them, had probably 90% of all of the major historical battles for the General War, and more. Until recently they were available as close outs for $5 ea. I just scanned their site though and they appear to have sold out. If you can find them anywhere they have a lot of info on the conflicts in SFB, including a lead up description, the ships involved, and the historical outcomes.

Would anyone be interested in playing these SFB scenarios as IP games?  Some of them are really cool and could be done in the FreeForAll script.

Might be interesting, but I wonder how badly sfb balance is skewed in sfc format.

Could be, and not every Scenario could be playable and some would simply be pointless, but it should be fun.

I don't really see this as much of an issue, if you also take into account the SFB scenario VCs, which are sendom as simple as SFC methods for figuring out who won the match (i.e. death or disengagement = loss).  For instance when playing the SFC1 Hood scenerio I always considered it a win if I managed to at least deliver an alpha and then make it to the border.

Well in part that's why I want the info, for campaign ideas....IP might be worth exploring thought too.

If anybody finds the scenario books anywhere please let me know.

Thanks for all of you input thus far.

PS Stop hijacking my thread,  ;) LOL :)

OK so I ended up ordering both scenario 1 & 2 books along with Module J on fighters and Module K on fast patrol ships.

Stuff looked cool with good info so I couldn't resist.

Also bid on Module J2 Advanced fighters on Ebay...LOL.  Hopefully this new found interest doesn't get out of control.   :o

Well you picked some of my favorite modules in J, K, and J2, but be forwarned, I started out the same way a year and a half ago. I ended up spending almost $1,300 buying all the rest plus a sh*t load of mini's. Haven't actually played SFB since about 1981 though.

LOL, I'll have to resist temptation to buy it all.   ;)

Just limit yourself to never buy more than $100 worth at a time. And it's not like there are new modules out every month. You don't have to get any of the Omega or training stuff and maybe not even the X-Ships or early era rules either.

Glad to know I am not the only sick-o.

I got into the Commander's edition in '88 (I was 14).  I have stayed up to date ever since, but I haven't played a game since '92

I've never played SFB, I am just interested in ship and fighter info along with the General War and any other major/minor skirmishes or conflicts.
