Hi everyone! I decided to paint a screenshot. Narrowed it down to 3 cropped images. Which do you like best? Will also chronicle step-by-step the process used to paint it and will put it on pdf for free with a tribute to Taldren. Models are Thu11s and painted with his permission. Painting will be oil on 16" x 20" stretched canvas:
ISC frontview
(http://www.geocities.com/reptor7/screenshotiscsmall.txt)
ISC colorful backview
(http://www.geocities.com/reptor7/screenshotisc2small.txt)
Darker Hydran

Check out http://embark.to/paint for examples of current work.

Darker Hydran!!!! ;D
well i'm biased lol
-
LOL! Yeah I'm sure bias will play a part. I'm partial to the first one myself. ;)
-
Been a while since i saw you Reptor, how ya been?
Sorry for going off-topic :P
-
Been busy writing, painting, & living life. ;D I'll fly a mission now and then but my gaming has been greatly reduced. Other than that, I'm doing fine. Thanks for asking, Grim.
Hmmmm. 30+ views and only 4 votes? Poll closes Fri. Take your time. :P

I'm having a difficulty picking on which one to choose!!!
I'm sooo excited to see the creation after it is done!!!!
There are different reasons I would pick each one....
The first one has such a nice halo effect that would glow nicely using oils.
The second one has the fire that would just light up the canvas.
The third is using the cool tones and may be my last choice.
So, it's between the first and third.... halo or fire burst..... halo.... fire burst.
Oh I dunno!!!!
Ok..... I choose....... THE HALO!!!
I can't wait to see it.
I love paintings and envy those who can achieve the art of putting brush to canvas effectively without reaching the mud stage.
The halo one is calming and serene, but not cold, as space can be so cold.
I don't want to remember Taldren as cold or as flaming.
Yes. The first one.
Whew.... I finally chose.
May your hand be steady and your heart filled with joy as you paint whichever picture you decide.

My choice is pic #1.

I like the second, then the first, then the third in that order... The second one looks awful hard to pain tho... but ill vote for it.. ;)
-
Bump'a de bump. Poll ends Fri.
-
I have always had a soft spot for the Fart Knockers ;D
-
I voted for three.
I like the background in pic 1 better. So how about ship 3 in backgound 1.?
-
Eh, I voted Hydran cause they are one of the freaking Good Guys.
Paint a Fred why dont ya! ;D
-
BTW , You need to Post links to your Book, and Your ISC series of films again Bro. Classic Stuff.

Yeah, I need to get my sig back up LOL!
ISC Theater: http://isctheater.50megs.com
Merged Centuries Books: http://embark.to/paint
Noticed recently that the music in the first 18 episodes isn't playing anymore. Not sure what's up with that.
Looks like the Hydran is pulling ahead. Interesting idea about using the background from one for another, but I think they should stay as is. The Hydran background suits it, and I can brighten it up a bit.
Thanks!
Jim
-
See I personaly Liked Pic two to be honest. I would love to see your technique used with the red and Orange Background.
Of Course we should all be humbled with your talents in Painting.

I'll probably end up painting all three. ;D And it is I who is humbled here. Between the modders, scripters, and modelers, the talent here is tremendous.

Stephen

I was going to tell you to for the secound one.
-
I was going to tell you to for the secound one.
I agree, That Background is Awesome, and With His water Color/Oil Bastardization technique, It would be awesome.
BTW, If You don't know what I mean, Check out his site, and his Book. He takes Old school and Completely Reinvents Art, into something Meaningfull yet again.
Stephen
-
Well, with words like that, looks like I'm doing the 2nd firey one. :D I need to write up the Hydran first. Somewhere around 80 steps & images. Give me a week.
BTW, TracyG can I put your 21 gun salute in the book?

wow...kewl stuff. I stopped by your web site. The Cape Hatteras is awesome. I wish I had just a portion of your talent. I'd try it but would be afraid of messing up so badly that I'd give up.

Need a favor though. Not sure on some descriptions of certain parts of the ship. I even called something a "thingy". :o Can someone look through the pdf and post the correct names so I can edit it?
No charge for download or online preview. Get it at:

Edited: New version is up: http://www.lulu.com/mergedcenturies
Another Edit: Eh, gonna have to wait till next weekend before starting on the ISC painting. But I did make a slideshow of the Hydran painting: http://reptor7.tripod.com/artshowhydran.html

You should have seen my first 10 or so paintings. :-\ It's all about doing one at a time, and each one will teach you something that you can apply to the next. I've been painting 15 yrs now (took a 2 yr break while doing ISC Theater).
Underpainting is a recent thing I've been doing, at least in the past 5 yrs. It's definately helped me with painting objects. Just painting mountains & trees get boring after awhile. Check out the Hydran slideshow:

I'll get started on it next weekend.

Just got back from a 1 week stay at the hospital (back and stomack problem, but I'm okay) so there will be a delay. I hope to have it done next weekend. :)

I still amaze myself at how Ignorant I an be at times Reptor. I caught a Biography on Van Gough yesterday, and Of course having heard about his Ear all my life, I was surprised to find out He cut his Ear off after an Arguement with Go Gan. Then Presented It to a Prostitute.
all my life I thought he cut off his ear for inspiration. I'm going to have to check out some Books about The lives of Artist I think. Any Suggestions Bro?

A lot of what makes an artist of the past famous is more about how his life has affect his art, - not the art itself. Van Gogh is a perfect example. Schooled in the traditional classical art of his time, his tragic life is what brought us the Van Gogh we all know fueled by the new Impressionism. It's said his sickness was brought about by lead poisoning which the paint back was then induated with. He had a bad habit of holding his brushes in his mouth. Van Gogh only sold 1 painting during his lifetime.
Rembrant's life makes a good read. Leonardo DaVinci as well. A lot of book stores has some good art books in the bargain bin, and a good online art site is at http://cgfa.sunsite.dk/index.html
A good, but somewhat expensive book on art is Sister Wendy's Story of Painting. The video version is great.

I ended up going to the hospital again the other day. I asked for a 2nd opinion from a different doctor and found I have gall stones. That 1st doc I had was really bad, as if he was trying to milk my insurance for every penny he can get. Surgery is now scheduled this upcoming Tues. I finally see an end-game to this. ;D
I'll have my next painting done prior to that. Should have it done by Sunday. Thanks, Stephen.

Thanks Very Much for the Info Jim. I'll be checking out those links Later today.
BTW Didn't Van gogh also have Syphliss (sp)?
Anyway, sorry to hear about th Gll stones. I understand they can use a Sonic Doohicky to crush them and Make It easier to pass.

I don't recall reading anything on it. The main thing that sticks out in my mind is the lead poisoning which is attributed to him spazing out. Combine that with his spirituality, and you can see how he derived his vision.
Hey, since I'm not working right now, I'm gonna go ahead and knock out the underpainting today.
:D

Too Cool Jim. I'm sure we all anxiously await the New one.

Fascinating.... I didn't realize, until viewing the pic in black and white, just how sensual that ship looked.
Now, I'm beginning to see men's fascination with ships. Ok..... this is strange so I'll move along now.

Looking at it, I kinda like the B&W version better. ::) The best out of the three IMO is the 2nd firey ISC one.
I'm gonna compile all 3 into a single step-by-step book.

Got all 3 paintings compiled into a single step-by-step pdf document (click preview):
http://www.lulu.com/content/67998
Took up 52 pages. ;D

Thinking about doing another series of 3 based on dragons this time. Right now, I'm trying to get the GFL to host a OP tourney in which the winner will get one of the original starship paintings. Will pass on what's up when I get some news.
