I'm flyin' along in conquest mode with my warbird wingman, killing Federation scum, minding my own business when suddenly a Federation frigate, whose captain has more balls than brains, decides to attack me. I'm not going to run from a fight with a frigate, so I go into battle, blow the saber up, then for no reason my warbird wingman blows up as well. I know warbirds are grossly underbalanced, but no way they're THAT fragile.
This kind of bug is unforgivable. I expect it to be fixed soon.

Yup been there had that happen to me and others as well it's just one of those irritating SFC 3bugs. On a lighter side of thingst SFC3 does infact saves your game after every battle so all you have to do is just click on Auto Save and you can restart with all your original ships back into your fleet.
I mean it would be different if say your wing man was taking a severe beating from teh opposing enemy force and finally was destroyed. But with this darn bug just blowing up ships for no reason at times it is sometimes best to just start over and hope that the bug doesnt resurface in a rematch.

I find that i am having the same problem occasionally. Occasionally your ally's ship will explode at the same time as a enemy (when you destroy it) I have not found a pattern to it, but it seems to happen only to the newest ship in your fleet (eg ive never seen it happen to the #2 ship when you have a #3, but it happens to the #2 when you DONT have a #3) I suppose we should just be fortunate that it doesnt happen to your ship.

I noticed that on D3 yesterday. I conjectured at the time that perhaps the AIs have a limited lifespan
I prefer that explanation to a bug anyway...

Its another silly bug that hopefuly will be sorted, however its not just AI's that blow up for no reason...
...A week after getting the game I was flying high in a Vor'Cha, my first big ship of the game. I was going solo against a planet and doing quite fine if I do say so myself, however, my ship blew up in warp for no obvious reason. Further more I have heard tales from warriors long past of there ships blowing up for no good reason.
This was put down to lag but if its also happening in single player then I hav'nt a clue.
Time to get me a signature -

I don't have a fixed answer but I have managed to ALWAYS trigger the error:
- Flying a borg fleet in conquest mode (I didn't want to invest additional lifetime hunting this kind of bugs so this
is the only one I'm sure) each time I had 2 wingmen in a planetary assault mission, BOTH blown away if there were more
than 4 enemy ships (not counting platforms) or just the last one if less. What ALWAYS happen is that your wingman
blows when you blow some other enemy (I haven't tested just sitting far away to see what happens).
- Other MORE ANOYING bug is what happens if you issue capture order to some of your wingman... Not only they doesn't
follow your orders at ALL but seems like instead they try to assimilate your comp, causing a mayor failure followed
by a CTD.

THis bug was a citizen of SFC2, which was fixed in one of the patches. Only there, you could end up getting it, too. Nothing like starting a mission only to watch what's left of you BB in the middle of an expanding blue ring...
I'm surprised it's a mystery guest in SFC3, too. Taldren, can't you come up with original bugs to put in the game?

Happens to me all the time. I guess someone on the other ship is trying to cook their hotdog in the warp core.

I see this bug constantly, too. Actually, I just had one during at Planetary Assault mission where the PLANET exploded. In addition to being absurd, this somehow made it impossible for me to win the mission even with all the defense platforms destroyed. *sigh* A very obnoxious bug.

Now that they've been assimilated into the rest of the galaxy, those little methane breathing trash can pukes have started crewing ships for all of the races.
It was only a matter of time before the Tal Sh'iar introduced them to ciggarettes.

Could we please get some official word from Taldren on this bug???
This is the only one I just can not stand...
Is Taldren aware of this bug? Is a fix in the works for next patch or a future one?
My own ship has blown up on its own as well. However, its very rare.
When my own ship blew up, it was the very beginning of the mission, and the one enemy ship blew up as well.
The only problem with autosave is if you completed the misson and then a ship blows itself up, autosave saves that...
I save after every single mission that nothing buggy happened in now... but it really should not be that way.

Kind of dissapointed its not in the patch bug fix list, but hopefully they are working on it.

it´s a shame that taldren never applies to these posts, concerning the exploding ship bug. the bug is well known since november...

a simple: "yes it will be fixed", OR "no, not yet but soon...."
would be enough to prevent people being upset all the time about this !!!!
for me, the best in this game beside the d3 is a modded and heavily tweaked conquest game, but with your ai fleet mates exploding nearly every second mission it simply S.... ! 
in my opinion there is a bug in the ship/shuttle automation. -> when a ship has launched shuttles and is beaten, the shuttles are destroyed in the same moment their "mothership" is exploding, regardless their status. That´s EXACTLY what happens to your team mates AND other ships/stations as well: getting destroyed when something explodes.
p.s. this bug is stealing my nerves! so PLEASE Taldren, a simple "yes" or "not yet" would be enough to save my life

I've never had my ship blow up at the begin of a mission. The worst I've have were some systems damaged as soon as the mission started.

Gotta love it...For those that don't know...This bug has been around since SFC1(3+ years)...It will never get solved...It seems to be a flaw in the game engine itself..And this game engine is old...The SFC1 game engine and SFC3 game engine are the SAME thing...Well, not totally exact....Some modifications and improvements have been made since SFC1...But at it's core..The same thing that drives SFC1 ...Drives SFC3....No matter how you look at it
The same bugs that have been around,will stay around and there have been MANY patches to prove this
Some people say recycling is a good thing....When it comes to game engines..Unless its tried and true (i.e Half-Life/Unreal game engines)....It's not

Yup I remember the fustration I was going through with SFC 1 back in 1999, then with SFC 2 EAW in 2000, and now seeing the very same bug reapear all over again in SFC 3 in 2002 is just very sad to see I must admit.

Occasionally your ally's ship will explode at the same time as a enemy (when you destroy it) I have not found a pattern to it, but it seems to happen only to the newest ship in your fleet (eg ive never seen it happen to the #2 ship when you have a #3, but it happens to the #2 when you DONT have a #3) I suppose we should just be fortunate that it doesnt happen to your ship.
