Adding scenes to OP
« on: May 25, 2003, 12:33:57 am »
Well I got inspired after seeing Chris Jones add some scenes to SFC3. I decided to try it in OP.  Mixed results so far. About 1/3rd look ok. The rest look good as well but the borders don't fade out.  Either I have to find new ones with black around the edges or do some editing.  Can't wait till I get a couple days off to work on it some more.   Here is a couple pics to give an idea. I will rotate them out later. Using free site that has a limit on pics.

Let me know what you think.

Top pic. USS Raven hiding from the Borg in a nebula.

Bottom Pic  USS Bradbury investigates some unusual readings.

Quick update. I  am about halfway through cleaning up the borders and editing the bitmaps, so they are not so stark.

The stock bmps only use about 1/2 of the bmp (the centermost portion) This eliminates border problems when the bmps are used in various space mod files.  I am attempting to remap each space .mod file  so thatapprox 80% of the bmp is used.  Thus the nebulas and such will appear larger without adding distortion.  The net effect is that space will become much more crowded. It may in fact look too busy. The only way to know for sure is to try one.

Here is a pic of the modified space00.mod  as seen in Taldren viewer.  Needless to say, it will take a bit to remap all the space mods if this 1st one looks ok in game.

The bottom pic is the stock space00.mod for comparison.

Well it was too cluttered as big as I had the nebulas. Didn't look good for game play. I can go 2 directions. Make the images closer to the original ones as seen in screen below. That way there would be about 6 images per map. Spaced out far enough that only 1 is seen at a time.  If I stay with the real big images(which work much better for screenshots) I would have to probalbly limit the images to 2 per map. That way they wont' be on top of one another.   The big images would look like those in my 1st post above.  Any opinions on this.  6 small images or 2 big?

There are 32 space mods in OP so another option would be to go half  small or stock sized and half big for screen shots.

Pic is a new image inserted into spaceoo.mod file.  Sized close to the stock images.

I am currently learning to use a program called Terragen to create planet maps and also entire planets. I save my planets in BMP form at 1024x768. I can make some backgrounds for you guys or you can find and download the program yourselves  here at the Terragen homepage which also has links to several tutorials one of which is an excellent  planet making tutorial

Let me know if you guys want me to make any planetary maps for ya!
