Question for Taldren
« on: January 28, 2003, 11:42:54 pm »
Hi taldren i have a question about shields. I have both versions of sfc3 installed. When i play the non beta patch (retail version) i noticed that shields held up longer then they did in the Beta Patch. So i'm wondering when the offical patch is released will shields be like they are in the retail version of the game or the beta patch?

Shields are actually the same in the beta patch.  I've run some tests and they haven't changed.

However, the weapons were changed.  They hit more often, and some do more damage.  That may be what you are seeing.

The Beta was recalled by Activision the same day it was put out by Taldren.. so those who got it while it was available were the lucky ones....

If you don't have the Beta, then your waiting like everyone else for the Release of the official patch or until Activision calls for a Public Beta...

sorry

I was also under the impression that reinforcing shields now syphons off power from the other three.  So, if you had reinforced your forwards, the remaining shields would 'appear' weaker.
I might be wrong on this, though.

Reinforcing shields was a bit broke from the way they were intended to work in the Retail version as it gave free reinforcement power..

the shields when reinforced is suppose to pull 33% of it's reinforcement power from each of the remaining 3 shields...

this is fixed in the upcoming patch (fixed is in the Beta that was released in limited time frame).

Still doesn't answer my question. Are shields going to be like in Retail or beta patch when the official patch comes out? Now someone said shields are the same in the beta patch as in the retail...well i don't think you've played the beta that much then.
The main reason i'm asking this question is beucase something has always puzzled me. Why does reinforcing a shield have to pull from the other shields? why can't the extra power that is gained from the warp core be used in reinforcing shields instead of robbing from the others?

P.S. I know this question is for the bug forum, but why is it when you go to warp a few times(beta or retail) you will keep gaining shields, but if you dont' warp during a match nothing happends to shields?

Like the beta.

The answer to the second part is simple. It is designed that way.

You slight me, sir!  I downloaded the beta the day it came out, and have used it ever since.

If you think they are different, go run over some mines, record the damage, and prove it.  Get some numbers, don't go by voodoo intuition.

I've done tests, have you?

The shields are going to be like the Beta.. the power from the warp core allows more reinforcement to ALL shields at the same time.. the clicking on 1 shiled will have that one shield pull power (33%) from each of the remaining shields...

When going to warp, the shield generators go offline.. thus 0 power, allowing for faster regen / repair of the system.. however, when the ship is at impulse, there is power to them, thus making it harder for the repair crews and the generators to fix the systems that were damaged or recharge them...

Is there anyway to drop the shields without going to warp or disarming weapons?  Would be interesting to try to do that manuever in Equinox part I.

You could drop the shield slider all the way down, that drops the shields, but you'll have to down all of them.
