Added the Sun to SFC/OP

Its added as a space mod so it can't be targeted or fire back.  Scaled larger than a planet.  Since it is scenery, you never appear closer or further away from it.

The ship in pics is the U.S.S. Bradbury.   Textured by Atheorhaven.

This is interesting news indeed!

One of the few things I like about SFC3 is the fact that the yellow star used in game is HUGE.

I have managed to replace a few SFC:OP planets (Qo Nos, Romulus, etc.) with SFC3 versions and have replaced the SFC:OP space mod  with the entire space mod from SFC3.

So far so good.

KF. I'd like to see some screens of the planets. Maybe I could swap some of my space mods for a couple planets.

Here is a pic from my latest mod using a hubble pic.  Might make a new sig from this pic.

James, that is a real beauty! Totally nessecary.....
A question I have, as I tried doing it and it doesnt work, so far... what happened to planets with rings in SFC3? I thought those made neat screenshots when orbiting around distance of 2 or so away- between the rings and the planet itself..... ah well- can you make different colors of stars? I tried that too for SFC3, but no go... you know a red Giant, a green star like Aldebaran (I think)... just some thoughts- nece work James! Is that downloadable?:)

I do'nt know a thing about sfc3 yet.   Thinking I will be trying other versions of stars. Hoping I can get  binary stars to work somehow. It would be for SFC/EAW  or OP though.

As far as the download. Not comfortable putting it up for the masses yet. The sun textures are not my own, but from a space pic. I am not sure who to credit for it.  I will try to zip it up and private message you later Reverend.

I want to find actual sun pics with solar flares and corona to use for textures. Gotta do another web search .

Quick update. I found the credits for the pics I am using. I will be able to use them as long as I give proper credits.

I want to hold off on releasing  till I have maybe 3 or 4 versions of space mods with suns.

btw-thanks Chris for the comment. Seeing your screen of the horsehead nebula in SFC3  got me curious about this.

Making progress.  Just have the red giant left.

1st pic is a yellow star using actual solar photo that I edited. Credits will all be listed in the d/l.

2nd pic is binary blue dwarfs.   I updated this pic since 1st post. Note it now has galaxy in background.

May have stumbled across something interesting.  I hope to have a surprise for you guys this weekend.

If only I could simulate tap-dancing on a message reply post... What can I say- my first love will always be astronomy. That work is.. &A#%^_% yippie!!! Its great!!! I sure want to be on your ''good boys and girls" list when you think you're ready to release them.... on a similar note, I have always been looking for a nice wormhole, or some wild space analomy- design... perhaps a script could be written for such-a space analomy or especially these star could be wonderful repacements- yellow stars are boring, adn actually not too common, or at least any more than any other kind of star.
Thanks for that great pics, James!!! Keep up the good work!

Thanks Reverend.

Note I removed some earlier pics so the page will load faster.  I intend to keep updating this thread with my latest work.
Once I get closer to finished I will repost the pics to all mods in smaller sizes

I finished a starfield mod that simply adds more stars to the starfield. While its effect is subtle, the mod actually contians 128 groups, (the maximum allowed by Milkshape)  using 28 bitmaps that I will convert to jpg format.  I added mars to this mod as well.  When I do future scene mods I may use this starfield as the overall background. It contains stars, distant galaxies and nebula in full 360 degree arc.  You really can't get the complete effect until you pan around some.

Don't take this as me treating you like an idiot, but you may not have known of this site- if you didn't it could provide you with some more inspiration- I have followed the thousands of links to really wild subjects- hyperdimensional objects, magnetars, Hugss bosons... gagh!

Yes, please keep us posted on this material as it comes- oh, by the way, by all means, use that added starfield as your template each itme- the one with the extra stars- it'll be even better I think! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the link Reverend.  Wish they had thumb nails.

I ran into 2 problems with using the starfield as a backdrop for all the mods.

The 1st one is a biggie.  I planned on converting the bmp's to jpeg  to cut down on file size and load time.
Well the jpg's didn't work. With 28 bitmaps, this is a problem. So back to the drawing board.

2nd problem- While it allows for better screen shots. It is a bit awkward in game play. This is because the stars are added as scenery, thus are stationary. So they appear to follow the ship as the small stars zoom bye. It makes the small stars look like space dust.

I will keep tweaking on it and try to get at least a couple mods with some kind of a 360 degree enhanced starfield.
Perhaps I will include it in the next batch so you can play test it and give feedback on it if you want.

Oh, yeah those pictures are pretty big... my bad, as they say... I would love to test them for you, if you like; it'd be an honor, surely. Yippie!
