I followed the instructions provided to install all of the patches for SFC1 but it won't allow me to play singleplayer campaigns or skirmishes?  Anyone know what the problem is?

SFC1 requries your CD to be in the drive to activate singleplayer campaign and skirmish. (and 1 CD for every 3 players for multiplayer)
SFC2 has no such restrictions.
SFC3 requires everyone's CD to be in the drive at all times to play.

Actually I'm pretty certain I don't need it in the drive after the CD verification, at least I believe I have been taking it out afterwards (or I used to be, for some reason I've been leaving it over the past two weeks when playng, just don't want to take the trouble...which is why I wish it had a NOCD thing on it).

I just bought SFC2 as well for the first time and I am having a cd key problem.  The one I enter that is on the case is registered as the wrong one, so can't play the game at all.  Can't even get to the game.  Did anyone else have this problem when they bought SFC2?

I don't think it's case sensitive, but make sure you enter all the "dash"s (-)as printed.
Also make sure the one you have is 20 alpha numerical digits long. (NOT 16) If it's 16. Then it's a Orion Pirates CD Key. Try to get an exchange where you bought it.

Dash Jones I think you are right! I was wrong about "all-times". (also there is a no-cd for sfc3 1.00 in existence.)

yeah, I have tired it with the dashes, without them, with spaces, without, caps, no caps.  Damn thing just won't work. And it is a 20 alpha-numeric code, so that isn't it either.  Unfortunately I bought it over the web from Amazon.com.  So, I am not too sure what its return policy is on opened software, not to mention that its customer support people would be unlikely to be able to understand or care about a CD key issue that is the fault of some other company.  They do not guarantee your purchase in any way except that you will get it.  So kind of stuck until Taldren or Interplay can give me a solution.  But, thanks anyway.

You do have to keep the SFC1 CD in to play single.

I played sfc3 for a while and am waiting for the patch so I bought sfc1&2&OP.

So far I have only played sfc2 & OP as the federation and have really enjoyed the "carrier" ships.

Which race has the best carrier ships and fighters?

speaking of patch, you of course do realize that they need patchs too. Right?

back to topic.

I personally like the Hydran Carriers the best. Almost all of their ships carry some fighter.

First thing I did was download the patches from interplay!  I should be up to date unless there are patches not available there.

Interplay is way off on the current patches... They stopped support about a year ago even though Taldren kept supporting the games...

I have all the current patches and officially released Bonus material available on my web site

Starfleet Command patch :

http://www.nightsoftware.com/effhq/sfc12.html

Starfleet Command 2 Empaires at War patch :

http://www.nightsoftware.com/effhq/sfc22.html

Starfleet Command 2 Orion Pirates patch :

http://www.nightsoftware.com/effhq/sfcop2.html

Starfleet Command 3 The Next Generation patch :

http://www.nightsoftware.com/effhq/sfc32.html

Now the patches i have are for the Full install of the Starfleet Command games.. so since you DL'd the Interplay patches.. you will need to uninstall your game using control pannel add / remove programs.. then delete the game directory (for SFC 1 it is the 14 East folder, for SFC 2 EAW it is the Taldren folder, For SFC 2 OP, it is the Taldren Software Inc folder, SFC 3 TNG only has bonus mission of Nemisis add on available and the DirectX9 patch)...

Reinstall game then get the patches from the appropriate site above..

no waiting list to download patches as they are local on my site...

SFC 1 has special install instructions that are detailed on my web site so please follow all instructions on patching exactly...

I hope that this information helps..

Hydrans and Mirak have the best fighters, but the Feds and Klingons have the best BCV's as far as battle effectiveness after the fighters get killed off. ISC Caveat III's are really nasty too, but very short ranged and the Tort III's aren't bad either. Both the Hydrans and the ISC get 12 fighters on their BCV's as opposed to 8 on everyone elses. Look in your SFC2 EAW folder and look for a file called MANUAL ADDITIONS. It gives all the fighter loadouts and damages for the weapons. Unfortunately they did not include that file in OP, but they are all the same. Don't forget the PF races either. 4 - 5 plasma F's can ruin your day too and that's just one of the four that most Tenders carry!

Congratulations you have bought a real Starship simulation

Now you will really learn about tactics,
Something that does,nt exist in SFC3

Davey, there are tactics in SFC3. Admittedly, they cannot be executed as precisely as in the older games because of the lack of accurate information, but you can still saber dance or starcastle in SFC3.

The tactic is every where.. hmm where shall i start....

ohh right refit of your ship.. lets see all are feds iam kling... my plolos can hit from 50 and dis 4 from 42 so if i stay away from 35 i shuld be clear of the feds phasers...

and if i dotn need to get close i dont need as much tractor ore transporters ore armor.. more mass for computer and cloak...

if  just warp araund and atack from loong rances i dont need a big truster.. more to speed and so etc... etc...

The tactic is still there just a new virety of itt......

Its about to have the right ship to do the job at minimum cost. .... Just like the real deal in life....

Lack of information doesn't have a whole lot to do with it.

Yes, you can saber dance, but the effectiveness of such tactics is low. Most of the tactics developed for SFC2 exploited the differences between the race's heavy weapons. The weapons in SFC3 are much more similar than they were in SFC2.

The main tactics to exploit in SFC3 are related to how you build your ship. That is what most affects how you fly.

Information wouldn't change much. Its not likely to create new tactics.

"SFC 3 TNG only has bonus mission of Nemisis add on available  and the DirectX9 patch )... "

What is the DirectX9 patch for? I plead my ignorance, this is the first time I've heard of it. (I humbley grovel for more info, please )

P.S. Thank you for your site! The true nature of the net as it should be, easy exchange of information.
