Babylon 5 Station Model Available for Conversion
« on: May 30, 2003, 11:53:30 pm »
I made a model of Babylon 5 for a mod we are working on. I already lit it and converted it to mod format, but I don't have the time to do break mod, hardpoint and damage points, etc.  If someone wants to convert it to SFC, contact me at trekke1170@strategyplanet.com . It currently stands at 9,300 polys as it was modeled for Bridge Commander and StarShatter. Haven't been able to reduce it without distorting the textures.

Okay guys.. have her, and I've converted it (almost).  Didn't have time to join all the bits before I had to come to work.. but I did have time to do a render..

WIP shots as I go along.. I'll see if I can't get this into the 5000+ poly range as well as the high poly version (as sent to me by Brad).

It will probably be about 1.6 megs for the 256x256 version and 3.5 mb more for the higher-res textures.

you need someone to port it to BC too? And if so, you want it full cannon scale of 5km or whatever??

Starforce, yeah, I just got to zip it up. Its already niffed and everythin,g,  though I don't know if you need the original for scaling. I don't know a thing about porting to BC. I'll email you when its on the server for download .

Manitoba, Atheorhaven is currently working on conversion, I'll post a link when its done.

well, I should release a tut. Perhaps I shal make on tonight that tells how to convert mod files to BC using max 3. It will be crude though., pix and text in a word document....it will explain scale.

Quick update..

It's almost ready for release and should be ready for ingame testing in a day or so... just have to hp/dp it.  Break mod and primary mod is finished.  Currently am debating releasing it in the current 9400 poly form.. or trying to poly cut it a little bit to get it down to the 5000 range.  Given the choice, and the fact that there is already a lower poly version out of B5.. I'm personally thinking of just releasing it as is.

Would like some feedback please.. what's peoples thoughts on this one?  Higher (9400) poly, or should I convert it down to the 5500 or so range?  Or should this be released as both?  That'd have a station in the <3000 range, one around 5500 or so, and the 9400 poly one.  If I poly chop it though, I'm also concerned about texture distortion.  Thoughts?

the ones i know of is this one and one other one. though im not sure where i got the other one from. i got ships from freespace and homeworlds mods that i converted to sfc3.  well cant wait for this one to get done. then all i have to do is figure how to make it show up in game more than just randomly.  and for skirmishes.

Yea brad, I can scale it to it's cannon size. There's something around the next that has the size of B5 and many other scifi ships/stations. Now if I can only find a good site that has specs on federation stations....

In-game screenshot of the B5 Station.  Omega is based on DamoclesX Starshatter Model, B5 Station is based on "The Babylon Project" , both with substantial skin and poly conversion to MDL7 format.  The models do have very high poly counts.   Any takers to convert to SFC1/ 2/ 3 format?

I already have the B5 station from Brad and converted that a while back.. but don't have Damo's Omega.  Wouldn't mind getting my hands on that, and I'll release them both together.  (Re-release in B5's case).  :)
