Im conected at 26400 bps and I was wondering, How ticked off would people get If I tried net play?

This applys to both 2, op, and 3 if there is any difference.

Well, i know 56k-ers have some trouble hosting multiplayer battles since the beta patch.

Yea, but as I think I said, Im a 26.4 ker. Will my conection even let me conect to anything?

And does sfc 2 Eaw or OP require less conection speed?

I don't know what the heck that guy was talking about, but i have had no problem playing SFC3 online with my 56k modem with the beta patch.  As a matter of fact, the beta patch seems to improve my online gaming then just the game alone.  But again, this is just SFC3.  For some reason, I can't get SFC:OP to work.  Don't know why but I can't play multiplayer.  Haven't tried SFC2.

Im on about half of what 56k usualy goes at! IM AT UBER SLOW SPEEDS. Oh well. I guess trying is the most important step in doing...

i'm at 33.6 here and I notice no terrible latency in GSA or dyna play (when I can get the *))&*^%&% dyna play to work.).  It slows if there are max people on, but nothing terrible.  I'd say at your rate you could do GSA 2v2 without problem.  Depends on where you are and where 'they' are, really.  As my experience with dynas is limited (mostly due to my inablity to get onto them) I can't really say how well you'll fare there.

Anyway, good luck to you,

Holocat.

i have a ADSL Internet connection

Downstream 768kbits/s

Umstream 128kbits/s

so its fast enough to host a 6 player game.

Maybe you overread the word  hosting A 56k-er doesn't host multiplayer battles with more than 4 players without serious lag. Joining battles is no problem, but the hosting part is as far as i know, but then i'm hooked up on a big bad connection. (no not T1 yet) Even i can lag a bit when hosting planet runs with 5 others in it, so someone who frankly has much less bandwith will have more problems.

By the way, isn't it possible to buy a 56k modem instead of what you have now. I don't believe they are that expensive anymore.

Of course it's not the data transfer rate but the ping which is important in 2 player games. Sat links can give very high transfer rates, but the latency makes it impossible to play. So if you have a good ping you will be okay.

I have a 56K modem. I just happen to live so far away from the transfer station (on all three ISP that we have had) that it degrades to something a little less than what a 28.8K modem gets.

Ya, I hear ya.  I live in somewhat remote areas aswell and even though you have a 56k modem, it degrades.  I had the same problem a couple of years ago, but it wasn't the distance that kept my bandwith low.  My local ISP was being greedy and thought they could squeeze a few extra bucks out of people by saying...

"sorry folks, because the local node is so far away, you just going to have to live with using 28.8 or 33.3, but.... if your willing to dish out another 10 bucks a month, would could see if we can get you faster bandwith".

about 3 years ago, major competition came into the area and brought in their own ISP's that provided better Bandwith at the same (or less price).  That pretty much ended my ISP's forced milking of the system and they upped the bandwith for everybody that they claimed couldn't be done.  Greedy morons....

anyway, I do know what you mean though.  Some of the big city people just don't understand that many rural areas in the United States just don't have access to high band with yet and that may be for a long time because... hence the name "Rural" which indirectly means not enough people for ISP's to make a profit with.

I recommend OC5 as a minimum...

I play avp2 on line.  It does not have steller netcode.  One thing I learned was that it is not bandwith that is king.  It is noise on the line.  My understanding is that in reality you are sending lots of little packets not big files.  If you have noise on the line the packets have to be resent.  That causes latency or high pings.  Its kinda like raceing down a 4 lane highway with a bunch of pot holes vs a single lane that is smooth.  Just because you have a big bandwith up and down doesnt absolutely translate into low pings... I realize this is an oversimplification, but a lot of online gamers seem to not understand this....or maybe I don't...lol

That's a good analogy.
Equipment and software can afffect your connectivity too...   bad/old drivers or a modem that has seen better days can hinder your prized gaming hours.   Hyperactive Anitvirus and or Firewall software can cause havoc aswell.   Remember your PC should be treated like a car. Give it an oil change now and then, maybe give it a tune up too.
