Topic: Ok SFC3 won't let me into it. Says it needs Directx 8.1 but I have DX9 installed

Also, wasn't there supposed to be a patch released? I used the refit utility and nothing downloaded. I haven't played the game for several months and still there is no patch? Or do I need to check Activisions website?

nope, still waitng for that, but there is a beta patch out if you want that.

What does the beta patch do/fix? Also, where do I get it?

The beta patch fixes a number of bugs a list of fixes can be found  here.  Get it from from  this thread.  If you are on dial up do not download the patch because it will cause horrendus lags in multiplayer.  Do not install the DX9 fix or Nemesis add-on over the patch, they are already contained in the patch.

OK Thanks for the links. It's just so hard to believe that after 7 months (I believe the game came out in late october) that an official patch still has not been released...

The 'beta' is just as good as an official patch. Its just not called official.

I don't know what DMP is talking about.  I'm dialup and so far, I have had much better odds actually playing in Multiplayer Skimish mode on GS then without the Beta.  Still though, I can only play in games of 5 players or less (won't work for Dialups with 6 players at a time) and for some reason, I can't connect to D3.

But overall, the Beta Patch is not bad at all.  I recommend it higly.

Well, it not being official means it doesn't appear on the refit utility or the Activision homepage. You have to go out of your way to find it as I did. They should just make it official so it will be easier to find.
