Isnt the 'beta' patch just a full patch being marketed as 'beta' to get around a few Activision policys?

I agree.  SFC3 was just too complicated for me.  I think SFC4 should be simplified a lot more....maybe only one or two buttons, one for "fire magic photons" and another for "warp out before you lose".  All the rest of the game can be run automatically by the computer because, hey this is a game about the future right?....yeah it makes sense that computers will be running everything on a starship hundreds of years in the future.  I say that kind of "realism" will really bring in that general audience that Activision and Paramount needs to maximize their Star Trek profit and keep it going for another 40 years.  Screw those hardcore fans...they're just a minority of freaks that don't really amount to much on the bottom line anyway.<snicker>  Who cares about their whining....it just drives me insane to hear them droning on and on about Star Fleet Battles and Galaxies at War.  What a bunch of losers!!!!

Hyper-There already is a game you are describing. Its called Dominion Wars.  In  some ways it looks better than SFC3. Thinking it came out in 2001.   The computer can handle the entire battle. You can simple select which ships you want to target. It is very easy to learn. So much so that I have only played the 1st 3 fed missions. Simply because having the computer do it all is pointless. The game stops being a game and you just sit back and watch.  Kinda like a DS9 episode, you are a bystander so its more like TV then. Except on TV there are characters that interact, here it is just ships blowing up.

There is no way to please the masses anyway. Everyone has there own opinion of what the best game is.

here is a link where I gave my ideas on what I want out of SFC4. There are some interesting ideas by alot of people expressed here as well.

I feel that dumbing down the game would be a step backward.

So does Hyper

BTW,  I have Dominion Wars

It crashes when you click the mouse too much.

It is completely mission based.  If you want to play a skirmish, you have to Download the patch.

Even then, the skirmish mode crashes when you play more than 5 seconds

The game says it requires the CD.  Apparently there was a bug that allowed you to play without the CD by clicking on the icon
Don't worry, the patch fixed that bug.  Wasn't that nice of them?

i Hope they will realse a Game patch soon , because the most players left dynaverse 3 while the game was to baggy. And they should relase the Patch for SFC4.

What could be in SFC4 can anyone tell me something about it?

Dude, the way things are between Activision and Taldren I don't think we'll even get an expansion pack let alone SFC 4.  Would be nice to get more gameplay features and  two playable races  though.

Define "like".

I liked the game the first two times I played thru the campaign. But it ended there.

Just in case people haven't caught on:
1. The beta patch is pretty darn good. So there is already a viable patch.
2. Talking about SFC4 is our way of shooting the breeze... It's unlikely it will be true (at least not in the near future)

I'll agree to that indeed! Dominionwars had to have been one of the most bugiest coded game titles ever made for the Star Trek PC game franchise. Dominionwars  could of been so much more if it were in more capable developer hands.

Dominion Wars was OK with all the patches but it got really boring after completing the campaigns.

First, saying that the beta patch is "pretty darn good" is extremely subjective.  I couldn't disagree with you more.  Although it has effectively addressed many stability issues,  it has also adversely affected gameplay (IMO battles take way too long now, and Borg have become even more unstoppable than before.) But just as your opinion is subjective, my opinion is also tainted with personal bias.  Second,  a beta patch can indeed be considered "viable", however the fact that this "beta patch" has not yet been deemed an "official patch" after 5 months highlites many issues. The source of these issues remains unknown to me (ie. Taldren or Activision), but as someone who's worked in the software industry since '95 , this kind of product management wouldn't be tolerated in a truly professional environment, and if this software was positioned to be sold in the business community, then either/both the developer and the publisher would lose tons of money to their competitors and they would be neck deep in (you know what) trying to please whatever few customers they could retain.   All that aside, the fact is that they're lucky that their product is a retail product, but any future purchases of a Taldren developed product that I 'll potentially make will be scrutinized with extreme skepticism.

Now that that's out of the way, the SFC series is a fantastic concept which obviously has all of us enthralled.  Talking about SFC4 is indeed a great way to express our "wishlist" to expand upon the idea.

The problem is not with Taldren.

Look how many patches came out for the other games.

We appear to be having problems of a political nature if you know what I mean.
