Define "like".

I liked the game the first two times I played thru the campaign. But it ended there.

Just in case people haven't caught on:
1. The beta patch is pretty darn good. So there is already a viable patch.
2. Talking about SFC4 is our way of shooting the breeze... It's unlikely it will be true (at least not in the near future)

I'll agree to that indeed! Dominionwars had to have been one of the most bugiest coded game titles ever made for the Star Trek PC game franchise. Dominionwars  could of been so much more if it were in more capable developer hands.

Dominion Wars was OK with all the patches but it got really boring after completing the campaigns.

First, saying that the beta patch is "pretty darn good" is extremely subjective.  I couldn't disagree with you more.  Although it has effectively addressed many stability issues,  it has also adversely affected gameplay (IMO battles take way too long now, and Borg have become even more unstoppable than before.) But just as your opinion is subjective, my opinion is also tainted with personal bias.  Second,  a beta patch can indeed be considered "viable", however the fact that this "beta patch" has not yet been deemed an "official patch" after 5 months highlites many issues. The source of these issues remains unknown to me (ie. Taldren or Activision), but as someone who's worked in the software industry since '95 , this kind of product management wouldn't be tolerated in a truly professional environment, and if this software was positioned to be sold in the business community, then either/both the developer and the publisher would lose tons of money to their competitors and they would be neck deep in (you know what) trying to please whatever few customers they could retain.   All that aside, the fact is that they're lucky that their product is a retail product, but any future purchases of a Taldren developed product that I 'll potentially make will be scrutinized with extreme skepticism.

Now that that's out of the way, the SFC series is a fantastic concept which obviously has all of us enthralled.  Talking about SFC4 is indeed a great way to express our "wishlist" to expand upon the idea.

The problem is not with Taldren.

Look how many patches came out for the other games.

We appear to be having problems of a political nature if you know what I mean.

"Activate."  It's kind of like a personal E3 for Activision where they show off their product line.  Rumor has it that there may be more games in development, and this seems like the place to announce it.  Watch the news for something in July.

Well, if this is the Activision I know, It will probably be the "star trek elite force: extreme beach volleyball edition" (and I really miss the "" icon.) instead of GaW. (I am sorry, but I have little faith in game publishers nowadays.)

Sorok, Point well made. I understand there are still issues (especially with balance). But, those are unfortunately unavoidable. It's not a quest for perfection, it's a quest to get as close to perfetion as possible given the circumstances.

And I must agree with jimmi, SFC3's patch history (or lack thereof) is not reflective of TALDREN's commitment and professionalism. Taldren had a pretty free reign with SFC2, and look at the efforts (which still continue today) to patch that.
It's not always nice to point fingers, so I won't...

Common Activision hurry up with the real deal patch!  I want to play SFC 3 online soon like sometime this year already.

Sorry just getting tired of waiting here.

Do you have a dial  up?

If not, download the Beta

I have had the beta patch since it was released. But I do still see goofy things like cloaked ship being given away by a ships turn radius graphic and some wierd lag when ever I'm changing out ship loadouts and after a battle is finished. The beta patch fell short in these area's but hopfully these things will be fixed in the next patch thats why I'm a bit anxious for the next patch.

I thought the cloak thing was intentional

I know it is intentional if it passes over you

Yea, it was an accedent, but they thought it looked cute so they kept it. I think one of the Taldren guys said that somewhere on the old forum.

I am just curious if there is going to be another patch.  I don't really care when it's supposed to be released.

I think that's Activision's call, not Taldren (I could be wrong, so it doesn't hurt to ask)

No SFC4, i want one, but i want it to be popular too so we can expect long time support and future games, best thing to do is build up an audience, offer something new, not just to startrek but gaming in general, a new feauture, graphics, something. Advertise the hell out of it, then give the game a name (SFC4) Build up a general audience instead of hardcore fans. Anything is possible.

Never say its dead cause of how long startrek has been out. Look at starwars, they are still popular as hell.

Mayby we need a MMO for startrek? not RPG though, MMORPG's are getting old real fast, i would think an RPG/FPS/FlightSim mix would work, offer something new, And gain a large audience.
