Next Up from SFCX: "Tech Wars" Late/Advanced Campaign
« on: May 15, 2003, 03:09:52 pm »
We're still working out the details, but it looks like SFCX will be aiming at this weekend to start our next "light" campaign, tentatively titled "Tech Wars."

Premise:

The Alliance (FGHZ) and Coalition (KRLI) are on the verge of introducing the first ships using advanced new technologies. The wars have taken their toll on each empire's economy. Some worlds are nearly barren, their populations relying upon aid from the government and their neighbor systems just to survive. Starfleet and the other military organizations are locked in an arms race to be the first empire to build and field so-called "X" technology ships. With the ability to pack dreadnought firepower and defenses into a cruiser hull, the empires that are able to build these ships soonest stand to gain the upper hand in the war. Disputed and enemy systems rich in much-needed resources are under heavy pressure from rival forces. All empires covet not just the raw materials needed to build and maintain a fleet of new ships, but also the enemy stations where X-tech research is being carried out.

By the time the fires die down and the dust clears, one side will emerge victorious. Will you and your allies prevail? What cost in lives and territory will it take to win?

Find out on Tech Wars.

Server Setup:

Though SFCX is still in the design and testing stage, we expect to use most of the final Reclamation server settings for Tech Wars. Large ship prices will probably come down so players have a chance to pit heavy battlecruisers and dreadnoughts against X-ships when they come out. Players will start in NCL/CW ships. The campaign will start at 2283. X-tech will appear based on FireSoul's latest OP Plus Refit Shiplist specs. VCs are fairly simple -- take all the economy hexes you can find. These represent resource-rich planets, terrain, and R&D bases. Some planets or bases may have no economy whatsoever. These have only supply point value, since without the economy from the key hexes, they can't produce ships on their own.

We also encourage players to fight with or against X-ships once they come out to better test the balance of the SFB-based Xes included in the OP Plus list. Most of all, we hope people will visit to have fun with late era and early advanced era ships.

Stay tuned for a launch announcement.

Sounds like just what the doctor ordered to test some of that X-tech.  I look forward to it.  With SG3 starting soon, y'all should have a good amount of time to get things worked out.

LOL, personally I'm more concerned about getting D2 time in on the first-gen Xes to see how they match up. I would be perfectly happy not to see any Taldren X-ships, but that will be up to the players -- if they want to keep playing once they come out, fine.

I pretty much just have to go through the shiplist and make sure the bulk of the filler ships are restricted. This will probably go up tonight or early Saturday.

I know SG3 will be running, but we need the feedback on Xes before we do our next big thing, Operation: Unity. The Andros need something challenging to fight. I encourage players who have time to spend a little on the server and have some fun. The late era will go for approximately 7 days (10 years), and then first-gen Xes will come out.

Feedback from this will help us determine if any minor tweaks are needed in the way X-ships are implemented, or if they are good as they are. If we don't hear from people, we won't be very sympathetic to complaints later on.

Keep watching this space for our launch announcement. In the meantime, there are 3 other servers up on OP, so "give OP a chance."

Barring unforseen problems, Tech Wars should be up by 8 PM ET tonight. All I have to do is load the server-side shiplist (some reclassifications and further restrictions to keep the yards from overfilling with stuff nobody wants) when I get home. I'll run one last quick test of a couple missions, and then put it up permanently. We will start in late era, which should run approximately 6-7 days before the earliest X-refits come out. There are 135 turns per year at 8 minutes per turn. Economy runs every 3 turns.

If SG3 hits the player limits, you know where to visit.

Cool fish, Nomad.  I'll be there after I get home from Matrix Reloaded (Woo!  My mum is watching the Warrior Princess overnight, so I'm FREE!).

LOL.

I'll be playing ISC this time around, since we want players for all races to try out the Xes in PvP.

Oh, and in case anyone wants to know the starters, they are NCL/CW ships so people can pop into the server and get somewhere without having to claw their way up from Frigate Hell:

F-NCLR
K-D5KR
R-SPA+
L-CWP
H-COM
G-CDD
I-CMZ
Z-CM+

And starting prestige is 1000, so you should be able to get a better CW/CM than the starter if you like by buying a small ship and using your cash+trade-in on another ship.

As of right now, TECH WARS IS LIVE!!

Go out and have fun. If you run into any problems, please post them as soon as possible so we can fix any issues that might arise.
