Power priority trivia
« on: May 12, 2003, 05:06:42 pm »
I just ran across this power priority data listed in the OP API, and can't believe I hadn't noticed it before.

I'm not sure how (or even if) these numbers are really used of course, so take them with a grain of salt, but it's interesting to see the numbers none-the-less.

Code:

70: Cloak
60: Phaser G, Shields
55: Phaser 3
50: Phaser 1, 2, 4, X
45: HeavyPhoton, DIstruptors
39: Plasma F
35: Plasma G
31: Fusion
30: Photon, Plasma S, PPD, ESG, Phaser A/B, TRB,
25: Hellbore, Plasma R, I, D, X, E
20: Mauler, Shuttles, Fighters, Drones, Probes, ADD,  Labs,  Sensors, Scanners,Transporters
10: Battery

EDIT: needless to say, I'm going to have a play with this and see if changing them has any impact

What does it all mean, Professor Wizard?

I'm guessing this is how ship's power allocations are chosen beyond our "1-5" settings: by default the power goes to the highest ranking system first if there isn't enough power to go round.

I'm guessing these are the base priorities, modified by whatever "other" factors are currently in play.  Pure speculation of course, but might turn out to be useful.

The problem with that theory is that some of the systems listed don't require power.

Actually I chopped out a badjillion others - they had a priority for every ship system, including those that don't use power.

So...what forces Romulan AI to cloak to the detriment of its ability to charge weapons and move at a decent rate?

Hmmm .... interesting thought ... if the power priority for the cloak were dropped below that of the weapons and engines (instead of having absolute top priority) then just maybe that wouldn't happen.  <insert mad scientist gleam>

Well then if this code only affects the AI in a script, then it could be part of the behavioral controls in a mission, which would be really cool.

While the professor is building a radio and anti-cloak scanner out of coconuts, I'd like say that the Romulan AI wouldn't have a problem with cloaking and charging if the charge cost was dropped significantly. Not that I am biased in this in any way. Well a little bit, but not enough to worry about.

Ginger or Mary Ann?

Anyway...I agree.  Given the current ROI on cloak in SFC2, the cost needs to be dropped dramatically.

This may sound really wierd ('cos it is), but I'd like to see the cloak adjusted so that those little Bird of Prey things the Klingons have (ending in Y) are playable. Then use those power costs for the greater Romulan fleet with relative adjustment for 1st gen, Kestrel, and 3rd gen hulls.

Of course it may not work at all, but what do you expect for 30 seconds of creative thought..

MUHAHAHAHAHA (throws coconut at Gillig - I mean Cleaven)

Dizzy better get SG3 up soon, I'm spending too much time tinkering and exploring.

It's beginning to look like we may also be able to influence (note all the qualifiers) the rate at which things repair/regenerate ... things like fighters, shields, and warp engines.
 <evil grin>
I'm just trying to get some accurate measurements now to see if this is really working the way I think it is.

Is anyone (are you) recording the results of all this tinkering into one document?

Mary Ann.  Ginger could not handle a Klingon.

Sounds like a longer term exploration project. I don't think anybody wants to actually change the power priorities themselves too much, except for things like the cloak and maulers.

Perhaps if you could investigate maulers, (not that I have any interest in flying SparrowHawk and SabreTooth maulers) as a first option. If you can change the way maulers recharge their batteries, then there will be some rejoicing from certain Coalition captains. (Not me. Well, maybe a little bit)

Oh you said it, this is  SOOOOOOO deep in the category of off-the-wall long-term exploration!

It isn't anything that could go into a serious pack without a LOT of testing and investigation - right now it's more in the lines of goofing around and seeing what's possible - I just happened to land on a couple of things that I hadn't realized the scripts had influence over.

I'll look into the mauler angle, it might indeed be a possibility.
