Doh!!!!
If you want to take advantage of SG3's ability to employ custom models, then there is a (soon-to-be-fixed) bug in the current installer you should know about. If you are happy with custom models, you can quit reading now.
Every computer language differes, and when you move back to one after a long time you can have dangerous logic lapses. This is espeicially true if you are moving from a real programming language to DOS. Some programming concepts just don't exist in DOS.
Currently, the installer I gave Dizzy fills the new folders it creates with the stock Taldren models. I didn't want people to have to download their custom models more than once, so the uninstaller was written to leave these new folders alone. The installer is supposed to leave them alone too if they are already present.
This is all well and good, except that the logic checks I used in the installer don't work in DOS! (doh!) If you uninstall and reinstall, your custom models will get overwritten.
1) What does this mean to me if I'm happy with stock models?
Nothing. If you leave your stock models alone, you will hav no worries.
2)What does this mean to me if I want to use custom models?
Each time you use FromSG3 and then ToSG3 (until I fix them or you use the workaround) your custom models will get overwritten. Your G-BCH, for example, will go back to looking like whatever is in your G-CA file.
3) This sucks! You're an idiot! Are you going to fix it?
Yes, yes, and yes. The fix is actually very simple. Fortunately it is possible to program in DOS from any machine no matter where I am. I'll try to get the corrected installer to Dizzy before the weekend is out. There are four more folders he wanted created anyway, so it was always in my plan to give him a new installer between the test server and the upcoming real server.
4) I don't want to wait for the fix! I want to play What can I do in the meantime?
The installer still gives you everything you need to play on SG3. You can either:
a) Don't use the uninstaller; keep your machine set for SG3 and spend all your weekend time playing on SG3. (Why would you want to play anyplace else anyway?)
or
b) If you've already used ToSG3 and installed some custom models, then make a backup of your Models folder before using FromSG3. Then replace your model folder with this backup after using ToSG3.
5) Does Dizzy know about this bug?
If he's reading this, he does now!
Remember, if you don't know how or don't care to use any custom models, you can use the ToSG3 installer and the FromSG3 uninstaller with no danger.
