scaling ships and ship names
« on: May 06, 2003, 08:11:43 pm »
Hello all:

I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me how to scale the size of the ships ingame (SFC3). I would like to scale down a couple of ships (make em smaller).

Also, can anyone tell me how to give new ships (models I added into the game) shipnames. I cant seem to add in names in the shipnames file in the strings folder, they show ??? for the name ingame. I have exel, word and notepad.

Thanks folks

Scaling is a matter of using 3Dmax, and I have found you first convert the model (.mod) into a .3ds file, open that file, go to that little hammer icon on the faaaar right, then find Add More... look in this and you'll see Rescale World Units. Rescale the selection, not the whole world or whatever. It does so in degrees. Now, save that altered .3ds file as a.mod of the same name. It will show up in-game, but needs to be a new campaign or skirmish.

As far as adding names to ships, to get rid of the ???, you just add a Text document, not a Notepad, a Text document in that folder... the text document having the same name as the folder as the model. In that text document, you'll type whatever you want to show up in the ship library.
Does this help?
