Pinctada Margaritifera variété cumingui :Huître perlière qui donne les plus grosses perles au monde, espèce cultivée principalement en Polynésie française. On trouve aussi dans la même famille la Pinctada Maxima au perle blanche ou champagne dont le diamètre des perles est aussi important ; En Australie, aux Philippines, Indonésie, Birmanie et Nouvelle-Guinée.
