Would you give me the links to your latest missions D/L's so I can get S'Cipio going on the installer? We are about ready.

Heh, you're lucky I managed to get online.

Today was the day for sys work at home

1 upgraded from the '98 virus to the XP virus
2 added some memory (shoulda done that before 1, but hey)
 3 replaced my sound card
 4 replaced my video card
5 replaced about a bajillion pieces of software and a few chunks of hardware that weren't compatible with steps 1-4 above
6 installed all said hardware and software on my "beater machine" - the one that gets used for weirdo script and setting experimentation

It all appears to be working at the moment, so I'm going to quit while I'm ahead and begin drinking heavily to make up for the fluids lost cursing all things born of the Evil Empire (TM).

Guess I better post the link for ya first

http://www.sfcx.org/downloads/mirrors/NuclearWessels/EAWMissions.zip  for the latest pack, plus
http://www.sfcx.org/downloads/mirrors/NuclearWessels/SGMissions.zip  for the alternatives you asked for,

and for those couple of sets of mission sources if you still need them:
http://www.sfcx.org/downloads/mirrors/NuclearWessels/CustomsSource.zip
http://www.sfcx.org/downloads/mirrors/NuclearWessels/InvestigationSource.zip

hope that does it!

Ummm...you don't want Doka to see the map. The Gorns got screwed again.  I know, I know I fought very hard against this. I did lotsa of obligatory mashing and gnashing of teeth. But, all of Jinn's checks bounced so too bad, so sad.

The friendly neighborhood Frogs are back, muhahahaha.  I guess the Gornos will have to pull the magic disappering act ala CW6.0 during early mid- and early- era. Oh, did I mention that the Feds are the only nearest ally.  Frogs like so much to  munch on Freddie and Gorno sub sandwiches. It's so yummy for the tummy.

This is just a thought out of the blue.

Correct me if I'm wrong or add to this as necessary.

Dave has a set of missions. Not all of them necessarily work (ie: Dv shift) but most do.

Same with Karnak.

Same with Tracey.

What if, we took all the ones we know for sure work properly out of each set and combine them into one large mission pack?

Not only would we have a large number of working missions, but we would also have variety due to the styles of each author.

Has this been done? (If it has, just pull a Dizzy on me  )

If not, can it be done?

Just think, one large definative pack for everyone.

it will be done... as soon as scipio gets the installer finished.

The installer installs everything you need to simply logon to sg3. Its a one click process that does everything for you. Very simple.

SG3 is right around the corner...

I'm pretty sure that's what we'll see from most of the servers now - picking and choosing a combination based on what works best for their campaign.  There'll likely be a collection of missions that are pretty common used, and a bunch more that appear and disappear from server to server (plus of course any specialty missions put together for a specific campaign).

I doubt we'll see one universally accepted pack, both because everyone's got different tastes and because different missions are going to work better for different campaigns.  For example, the mission mix you want for a server with lots of neutral space can be quite different than the mix you want for a server with very little neutral space.

It's a good idea Goose, but implementing it maybe hard.

IMHO, what's probably realistic is a set of mission scripting standards being set up. For example, I think that the dyna realities have changed dramatically since IDSL.  I saw a lot of problems with playerbase retention happening after that campaign that Four Powers exemplified and AOTK conversely hide with a one time playerbase bounce.  Basically, in the pursuit of making the missions harder the newbies and casual players were forgotten. Now we can't find any newbies or casaul players. So, a good standard for any mission pack is to always include in home space a butt-easy, but not short mission so newbies can easily PP farm.  NW's planet survey mission is a good example of such a mission. In addition, any mission pack will want a  couple "Kobayashi Maru" missions for the nutters and average difficulty missions for the war zones.  If all the scripters in D2 and D3 can do that I think we will help slow down the player churn out of the SFC games.

Yuppy! Friendly space missions you really get a lot of choices, and some are very easy, although arnt quick... er none of the missions are that quick now, hehe.

But since friendly space dosnt have mandatories, then a nE()()biE wont find it too difficult to farm.

Karnak, get on yahoo chat plz.. Server questions

I agree Karnak.  An equal balance of missions must be found and adapted for each campaign.  The missions that are being used on LB3 are a combination of all of your missions.  And they seem to be doing well now.  There is a nice balance of easier missions in homespace, and the killer missions for the vets.  I do believe most of the players were very happy with the mission pack on LB3.  Once some of the final bugs have been worked out, then custom missions for each campaign can be done as a highlight to that campaign.

Oh and NW, Met_7Patrol is still screwed lol.  That one needs to be pitched I think.  The problem is, its the only patrol mission of yours that shows up in enemy space.  I would make another one if you can, perhaps just a 1v1 or 2v2 to replace it and you should be good to go.  Your new Data Recovery seems to be working now.

Many thanks to all of you that scripted these missions.  They are a blast!  I think we are closer now to a standard mission pack then ever before.

Ayep..a few of us (I among them) been voicing this concern all along in this process.  I actually know vets who don't play anymore because they don't want to mess with the new missions.  For them, it's not even a matter of being unable to do them, it's just not their cup o' tea.  It would seem that regardless of these considerations, the use of modified shiplists and mission packs is here to stay.

What stock mission would you like to keep? Personally, I like the stock Scouting mission. It's a good PP farmer.

One of the best PP farming missions, bar none, was the old convoy raid with 2-4 marines and ships moving at speed 10.  Now it's 6-8 and ships moving significantly faster than that.

The problem with the stock scout mission was its PvP ramifications.  The "scanee" could just turn around and disengage from the "scanner."

I miss the old Shipyard Defense missions, too.  Those were challenging and worth a reasonable chunk of change.

Agreed on that Dog.... it would still be a decent mission if the PP per captured ship was still at 90 though.  *wink, wink*

True dat...as it stands now, it's hardly worth the effort in time or consumables. I went from liking that mission to disliking it.

Muhahaha....it's BAAAAACCKKK!!!  Fluf says it's hard now, hehe.  Basically, I'm putting you on a 4 minute clock.  You have exactly 4 minutes to kick the crap out of those slowboat freighters with 2-4 marines with an enemy CA and enemy DD on your tail.  If you are not done after 4 minutes reinforcements arrive in the form of a CA and a CL at  one of 3 randomized locations at about range 50-60.  Plus, your starting position is randomized so you don't get in a rote rhythm.  It's one of my favorite missions and your ship does get shot up.  I'm thinking for throttling back on the reinforcements to just a CA or a CL and a DD team. I dunno.  Pays 500 to 700.

There's a Convoy Escort verions where you play defender. That's an easy 700 pp if there ever is one.

Sounds like we should pitch it then.

I like it too. Pays 450pp

Doh!  PP awards for that were supposed to have gone up a pack or two ago, but looks like they slipped through the cracks.

BTW, the last posted pack should finally have the AI self-destruction rate back down to something reasonable when you cap them.

Truth be told, I still like seeing (some of) the stock missions from time to time also.

dave
PS - I like the sounds of the "fast raid" Karnak!

The only stock mission I want to see back is the shipyard assault/defense. Does anyone know how to set these up for the D2? I remember capturing everything netted you 2000 pp. But it took forever!

A shipyard assault is just a 3v3 with a few shipyards thrown in on one side. It would take maybe 5 minutes to code? (half an hour to change all the text messages).
