Mod is short for "MODification".

It's a player-developed-and-player sponsored project that is dedicated to change the game. Either to expand the game, or to make the game go in a new direction.

They are generally safe. (since if worse comes to worst, you can always resintall the game) and the notable ones are often as popular (or MORE popular) than the original. (i.e. CounterStrike, the defacto king of FPS started as a mod to Half-Life)

In this case, Dominion War is developed by a player called "the pelican". you can get more info from his site.

It's listed in the race name because it was PLANNED to be included in the final version, but the time/budget ran out before they can be properly included. (same with Cardassians)

Species8472 is in my mod yes, about 8 ships. (Thanks to Skinman). You can play against them in campaign mode, or play as them in Skirmish mode. I need to work on them though, I'll be making them better in v3.

I think Korah removed the Bioship during the last campaign. Species8472 are no longer in TNZ.

How common are they in campaign mode? How long is the campaign against species 8472? Is it a joint campaign against all races that were introduced?

I have not finished downloading the MOD's yet, is the map bigger? Or are all the new races crammed into that small map?

There is no campaign against Species 8472, nor do they appear in campaign mode at all. The only way you can run into them is to get a mod that has them.

In the case of Dominion Wars, they get a small sector of the map in the 9 race conquest mode. (Which is campaign mode without the special campaign missions.)

I have installed (I think, I did Dominion_wars.dat thing) the latest version of Dominion Wars mod but when I do Federation (or other race) Conquest with Nine Races I can't buy any ships, the Shipyard is empty. Can anyone help me please?

You have to wait 10 turns for ships to begin to appear, that's all. A fix to one of the games bugs. (Campaign mode goes uber slow and eventually crashes).

Keep in mind that the TNZ is also a very good mod, and (at least I find) it has a more actively vibrant online community. In this case, there are still only 4 races (some races are dual-races, ei Klingon/Gorn are the same players and space), but with something like 40 ship classes to each of them.

I would recommend that you try both the Dominion Wars AND The Neutral Zone. Find out which you like best.

The only reason races like Species 8472 and the Cardassians are in the SFC3 files is bacause it makes it easier for Taldren to plug them in case it was ever decided to add them in with an expansion.

They did the same thing with SFC2 and Orion Pirates (I think). They had races in the files of those games that were never implemented(Andromedans for one,I believe).

They are in the files "just in case"
