SFC3 MP3s
« on: January 25, 2003, 01:21:06 am »
Hmm, I know how to use winzip to repack the music and audio files. But what I am having trouble with is info on what format SFC3 uses for MP3s. Any info on lenght limits or format requirements would help. Or any success stories.
What I am attempting to do is change the music in game with my own MP3s. So far, it doesn't like the replacement ones only.

Hey Towelie,

I thought it would be hilarious to replace one of my Taunts with a short peice of music.

Just imagining the look on all the other player's faces when my Negh'var started playing a verse and chorus of Stan Roger's "Mary Ellen Carter" when I hit the taunt button had me looking closely at the sound files.

I copied the original and moved it to another folder, then placed the MP3 (renamed after the moved taunt) with the appropriate voice files.

Alas, only silence.  Even after replacing the original file, that taunt won't play anymore in the game.

That'll teach me to play God.

Unfortunately, it would only be heard on your side, the other guy would hear the regular voice play on his end unless his was also modified.

Would be nice if in future with broadband, that playing customized tuants over PvP games would be possible.

Yeah, even though the other side couldn't hear it, I made an awesome Wrath of Khan taunt mod last year, that amused me to no end in SFC2: EAW.

I'm sorry to hear that no one has been able to do so in SFC3, surely there must be a way I hope?

As far as customized Taunts shared over internet games, I believe Wing Commander Armada, was one of the first games to ever do this.

If it was done back in the mid-nineties, I would imagine it would be even easier to do these days.

If I ever get the time this year, I would like to donate my humble programming skills to help make a music/taunt mod based on music and threats made from the DS9 and TNG series and related movies, that may become a must have add-on for SFC3 players.

Is anyone already in the process of doing this yet??

Towelie,

How exactly did you do it?

I believe I had to use wav format in SFC2.

Any advice would be appreciated, since the current taunts are a little lack luster..

Thanks,

You need to use winzip first all and tell it NONE for compression. Second, it has to be in correct MP3 format. Cool Edit kept adding a bunch of junk it didn't need like setting the private bit and adding checksum. Unchecking those options fixed the problem.
SFC2 just used WAV files and WINZIP with NONE for compression setting. Both are easy once you get the hang of editting and updating the zip files. SFC2 I used alot of wav files from the movies and the series. Also music from STII and ST First Contact.
I hope I answered your question, if not let me know and I'll help you with the rest of your trouble.
Which game are you trying to edit? SFCII or SFCIII?
