Can't campaign based on error message
« on: May 01, 2003, 10:39:11 pm »
Good evening, I'm hoping you guys can help me.  I just bought ST and I can play skirmish games but whenever I try and play a campaign I get the error message below.  The skirmishes are fine and I can do them all day long but on the campaigns I can get my orders and such but as soon as I try and start the mission I get booted to the desktop and get this message.

First, uninstall game

delete the SFC 3 folder off your system

reinstall SFC 3

Patch with Beta Patch from Activision's web site.. do not use the SFC 3 Direct X 9 Patch with Beta Patch as this will create game errors

check your video drivers, you may have to upgrade/ downgrade your drivers.. however if game is running correctly in single player mode, then that's not a problem...

what type of connection to the web do you have.. Dial-up, Cable, DSL? if Cable or DSL, what kind of modem do you have? If your DSL/Cable modem has both Ethernet/USB connection, disconnect the Ethernet connection and use USB connection.. this is due to those type of modems having built in routers on the ethernet connection, but not on the USB connection...

if you are on a home network, set your machine up as the DMZ machine and enable ports according to the Networking.rtf file included on the game CD (Browse CD and check different directories)

hope that this information helps you connect

Do one or the other. It is pretty pointless forwarding the ports through the firewall to your PC, and then putting your PC outside the firewall so that the packets don't get to your PC. If your firewall works properly, forward the ports. Otherwise use the DMZ functionality.

Thanks so far but I guess I wasn't clear in my original post.  I'm not trying to play multi player.  I anm play single player skirmishes but not the single player campaign.  It's the single player campaign that is giving me the error.

I'm uninstalling now and will reinstall and only use the Beta patch.  I was using the DX9 fix already and getting the message so maybe the BETA patch without the DX9 fix will help.

Thanks: John

I have no real idea, but in the earlier games there were problems with the intro movie player and the campaign map screen. Most people disable the movies anyway, so you may want to try it.

Go to the C:\Program Files\Activision\Sfc3\Assets\Cinema directory
and rename the Intro, Activision, Taldren & Paramount.bik files (to .bak or something).
