Connecting to D3
« on: April 25, 2003, 07:20:12 pm »
Ok, I have internet connection sharing on my computer and two network cards (one for cable modem and other for internal network). I seem to be having trouble connecting as it seems to get about as far as starting directplay test and then time out. I have the patch installed and I am also running the TNZ mod. I've been able to connect a couple os times but this is a perplexing problem nad would appreciate any help.

BTW I do not wish to run SFC3 on two machines just my one.

If you've gotten on a few times, then it's probably either your ISP or the remote servers. I get this occasionally too, and I'm on cable with a similar config as you.

When it hangs at the directlplay test, click the back button at "89 secs to go" (or whatever), wait a few seconds, then attempt to login again. Rinse, repeat. I usually get in after the 2nd or 3rd try.

Good luck.

It still will not pass the Directplay test host message. I don't have any firewalls either. I have even reinstalled the game with the patch (not the dx9 patch though) and have removed the network card form my computer.

What is your OS? 98SE doesn't work too well.
Was it working okay before, and failed for no reason?
Or has the ICS caused the problems?
A few weeks ago after re-installing all my software on a new HD SFC3, was most reluctant to work, but after three attempts at going through all the countdown cycles it decided to work.

My OS is xp pro.

For some strange reason it just decided to stop working. I've been through the cycle and it keeps repeating the same message about ip adress so I even punched in the ip adress and it still doesn't work. This is getting frustrating, however I would like to thankyou all for helping me.

I don't know much about ICS (tried it with 98SE and it didn't work) but you could try the bit where you add your outside IP to the SFC.ini

Under [Meta], add another entry for your outside IP:

 IPAddress = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

This works for people with routers.

Also you may need to have an entry BehindNAT=1 too.

And this is with the Beta patch too.

Well Baker I saw you on TNZ last night. How'd you fix your issue?

I took out the network card and reinstalled my internet connection and old network card as well.

I know this is not the answer most people are looking for because ICS is supposed to work, but at this time the most reliable way to get multiple PC's to share a cable modem is to get a Linksys router and follow the various posts about setting them up. Otherwise you kind of have to take pot luck that other solutions are going to work for you.

And you get a firewall too.
