please help with 3DS to .Mod
« on: April 24, 2003, 10:55:34 pm »
I have a ship mesh, 3DS format, that was handed to me because I misunderstood and mistakenly represented my capacities. I have access to 3DMax, and have converted before. I saved it through Max as a .mod file, but it wont show up in the Taldren Recacher, nor will it even show up in the mod viewer.... anyone skilled and patient wish to help me, like via MSN or such? Someone asked for my help, and now I think I totally screwed up their ship.....
Thanks to any and all...

If you pop over to my site (link is in the sig), you'll find a tutorial there called "Lightwave to SFC".  The last two thirds of the tutorial covers the process once the Lightwave mesh is in .3ds and then covers how to convert that over to the .MOD format.

You'll find that in the tutorials section of the site..  Hope it helps you out..

Say Atheorhaven- followed the tutorial to best of my ability- removed the mesh, but saved the hardpoints, then re-imported the original 3ds mesh over it, then re-saved it. The games still crashes when the model blows up....

In 3ds Max- what version are you running, i have 4.2- do you have the .mod plugin?  If so, go File -> Import, choose the .3ds file, then open it, then go File -> Export, and save it as a .MOD.

Also make a copy of the mod, add a _brk.  For example, if it is called Enterprise.mod rename it to Enterprise_brk.mod.  Do the recacher and Attribute Editor and add a GF and stuff for it, and thats what appears when it blows up.

Tell you what.. email me a copy of the mesh that you've done and I'll look at it for you.  One thing, resize all the textures down to something like 64x64 or so, that way it'll scrunch right down for fitting in Hotmail, and then when I recieve it, 3dsMax won't complain about missing textures.  Then I can see what I can do with the mesh, email it back, and you can put that back in place of the original one and see if that works..
