In the Darkness... Part VI

?What do you mean the vote is closed??

M?Ress glared across the table at Chuut-Ritt, who was flanked by J?inn and Kortez.

?It closed this morning. All other members have responded.?

M?ress stood back from the table. Redfur was standing off to the side of the desk that Kortez was on, as a respectful position to her KOTH Patriarch.

?Fine so I missed a vote. One abstention. Was it so close that one vote is needed to break the deadlock??

?Actually, it was a landslide.?

?Unanimous.? Added J?inn and blew a stream of blue smoke from his cigar.

M?ress glanced at J?inn. He was grinning, as usual. But he knew J?inn well enough to know what the different grins meant. This one was not good.

?So what?s the big deal? If it was unanimous then my vote is not needed.?

?True enough.? Answered Chuut, ?But you see, we were voting on some nominations. And you were one of the prime nominees.?

?I was nominated for something??

?And seconded.? Added J?inn. That grin was becoming bigger. And annoying.

?And thirded.? Said Kortez.

?How could I be voted if I didn?t accept the nomination??

?Should answer your messages more often.? Responded Chuut.

?Don?t I have a chance to turn it down.?

?Normally yes, but these, as I said, were priority circumstances. J?inn??

J?inn stood up. All of a sudden M?Ress was beginning to hate that grin. J?inn produced a document well known to M?Ress.

?Original charter of KAT, in time of conflict, subsection 3a, in lieu of duties to be performed. In absentia of verifiable response, the nominated party can be verified by a representative.?

?Why do I get the feeling that YOU, were that representative?? M?Ress growled at J?inn.

?The least I could do for my buddy who returned my son to me. While it did get me out of a wedding, there were other, ahem, side effects, that as yet need to be dealt with.?

?OK fine. So I was nominated. All the KLAW positions are full. The only position that is vacant to be filled is??

He stopped in his tracks. There was only one position available. It had been vacant for some time. AND there was precedent for replacing someone under such circumstances.

?You didn?t?

?We did.?

His mind spun, grasping for any excuse.

?You don?t have the required sign off.?

J?inn produced a document with a signature.

?Yes we do.?

M?ress looked at the document and his heart sank. It was authentic.

All three were grinning now. He looked a Redfur. She was positively beaming with pride.

Tune in next week for the exciting conclusion...

What is M'Ress gotten himself into?

Why is J'inn grinning so much?

Why is Kortez suddenly interested in KAT authority?

Will Timmy get out of the well? (Answer: who cares)

Same KAT time, same KAT channel!
