A measure of the AI
« on: January 24, 2003, 07:15:23 am »
Today i was playing SFC 3 and my 3 year old daughter decided she wanted a go.

So i put her into Battlefest on skirmish. Showed her which buttons to press.
The battle was Fed V Fed.
Her little FF was destroyed by the other FF. But she took it out with an AKira.

Now, does that mean that The AI has the mentality of a 3 year old? I know it throws tantrums and Self Destructs on occasions.

Can we increase the AI's mental age? as i dont think many of us playing this are 3, this explains why the AI is so easy to beat.

Anyone else done similar tests? and what were the results?

Yes I have as a matter of fact, not with quite so funny results as yourself though.

My main objective was to test out the different classes of ships for each races and see which ones were the best. The problem was the AI were so rubbish that they took forever to destroy each other.

Shame that.

Skirmish AI is crap.  The ship AI in Dynaverse seems something else.

I was doing the single player conquest, when I had an AI Falcon mounting myotronics joined my fleet.  I purpose hunt for hexes that has two or three enemy ship fleets as they can pose a real challenge to my rather limited skills. In some of these tougher battles, I could lose an AI Raptor, Hawk or Warbird, but the plucky little Falcon could deliver the goods, such as outfighting an AI Defiant with pulse phasers and laying the coup de grace on an AI Nebula.

The Falcon weaves in and out of the enemy fleet, slicing, dicing cutting with its myotronic beams. It was a wonder to watch.

I tried to recreate the same Falcon using the skirmish AI.  I copied the same configuration, and set the bird on maximum difficulty AI.

The skirmish AI Falcon was a joke, as a I ordered it to engage a sample ship, then cloaked to watch the battle as a spectator unmolested.  It had nowwhere close the bravado and pluckiness of the Dynaverse AI Falcon.  I personally don't understand it.  I think it may have something to do with the AI being bolstered in Dynaverse by officers gaining levels.

on the first Island, go to the police station and Drop 2 tanks.
Take the first and park it at the top of the stairs.
Take the second and park it at the top of the ramp.

Now shhot away with impunity, but dont forget to launch rockets at the choppers.
