Litterbox3 Database has been cleaned
« on: April 23, 2003, 07:38:50 am »
LB3 has had a DB clean, it worked this time, thanks to the hex editor that Rajnsaj sent me. Also, 2 bugged missions were removed, the patrol which shifted the DV the wrong way and the Data Recovery mission which has the AI takeover bug.
A few minor tweaks have been done to the gf settings, hopefully base assaults will now appear more often on bases.

Where can I find info about the DB, how to clean it, etc?

The database cleaner is a program that BBjones wrote (I think). It removes all the dead objects and ships that are cluttering up the flat file. The db file is then hex-edited to update the number of objects listed in the db. The DB cleaner is called the EAWParser, and reads in the EAW flatfile database. If the OP flatfile has exactly the same format as the EAW flatfile, then it should work with it. If not, then you'll just get errors. I dont have the layout of the OP flatfile, so I don;t know if they are different.

The DB cleaner was created by BB Jones for SFC2.NET.

Unfortunetly, because of differences in EAW and OP, it does not work with OP.

I would have to believe something similar to it could be made though.

Recommend getting rid of "Big Game" or advising people not to take it in PvP rich areas.  Apparently, the poor sod who gets drafted as the "Big Game" came only move at relatively slow speed.

Bearslayer's LB got whacked out by the AI in that mission (I didn't fire at him because of the bug) when I drafted him last night in a despaerate attempt to save the Klingon base in 44,25 (which I'm sure is now long gone).

BTW, Bear..I hope your LB remained intact after you dropped.  I dropped too, just to make sure the result wasn't reported.  Sorry that happened.

Yeah, I  left out the check to determine if the victim was an AI or not.  Doh!
It's been corrected in the currently posted pack, but too late for LB3.

My apologies to anyone who's been roasted by this,

Dave, can you let us know which missions you fixed?  We might just go ahead and do another download of just the missions that were fixed.  We are considering doing another download to go back to CaptJeffs EAWRefit shiplist and could include the fixed missions.

Also Karnak, if you have your AI bug fixed, I would like to get your missions back in there too.

Same goes for TraceyG, if you are done recompliling your missions.

I know the players dont like doing downloads all the time, but LB3 is giving us some great feedback on the new missions, and I think we are really close on having a standard mission pack.  Its also letting us get ready for SG3, ISC Invasion, and RDSL.   Im sure, with Rajnsaj's help, we can get another installer made up and could plug all these things in with no problem.

Dave, Im assuming the following missions have been fixed:
DataRecovery
Big Game
7Patrol

Any others?

The missions are fixed but suddenly after my little chat with Jeff I don't think I want them on L3 anymore unless you plan on banning him from L3.  So, you may as well pull all my missions out.

Thanks.

The Allied Base Defense and Player Base Defense have had their base selection mechanism changed, which will hopefully eliminate the lock-up problems folks were experiencing with those.

Note that 7Patrol is still broken, just not as broken as before It won't affect the DV in the wrong direction, but (except in neutral space) usually won't affect it at all.   My inclination is to pull that one - still can't figure what the *#%#@! is wrong with it.

Lots (most?) of the others have had small tweaks, but those are the biggies.

Tracey:

I'm glad you got that worked out.  I'm sorry I wasn't of much help.  After seeing your reply, I looked at the code I was trying to send and you were correct.  It's been bouncing because it's too big.

Thanks Dog, things were cool when I logged back on.

And Fluf got an earful about the mission.
