IIRC, you will find a music.txt file in the assets/sound folder, which contains references to music pieces stored in the file sfcmusic.zip in the same folder. the filestructure describes which portion of music is played in what game sitution. So, all you have to do*, is to include your musics in the zip and modify the music.txt to play always your files by replaceing the previous references stored there. take care to match the soundformat used in the sfcmusic.zip when inserting your files, or the game will not be able to play them (yes, you have save your music in the format sfc uses there).

(* Sounds easy, doesn't it? A quick look in the music.txt file will show you, why there are so many Music-Mods around... Good luck anyway. )

MenuF2b.i4x ??? I have no such File / Reference / Link / Message / Apple / Ghost anywhere...

No idea where you found that!

The Entrys found in the music.txt-file refer to those wav-files found in the sfcmusic.zip and have normaly a format like
XXX_X#(.wav) or XXX_XX#(.wav) ... ok, there are some exceptions.

The Musics are normaly broken into smaller Soundtracks to allow a Start-Track, Loop-Track, End-Track and for the Battlemusics, various complex arrangements depending on who engages who on the battlefield.

Sure would be nice if someone designed a "Wrath of Khan" sound file format for OP.  Star Trek 2 and 3 had probably the best music I think for Starship combat in Star Trek.

Well now theres a difference, there is a music.txt file in the SFCSounds.zip folder and there is a SFCMusic.txt file which is right there, which one do I alter

Actually, the best way is not to change either.  Find the sequence that you want to replace in the SFCMusic.zip. Then name your replacement file the same and add to the zip file with compression set to "none". Take off  any "read only" properties so your new file will replace the old. Also make sure your sample rate is the same as the original (22,050Hz).
I have my fed music from wrath of khan replacing Fdt_a1.wav and Fdt_a2.wav.
Klingon theme replaces Klt_a1.wav  First contact replacing Mnu_a1.wav at the selection screen,etc.etc.

I find this much easier than editing all the loop combinations in the music.txt file.

Are the music sequences hard coded?

I was wondering if you rewrote the Music.txt file to whatever and removed all the LOOP references whether of not that would work.

I hope to experiment with SFC1 music if this is possible.

I have not experimented with changing the loops in OP as it's not really necessary to get the effect I want. I have the rock version of the DS9 theme as my menu music, and the Feds get the TNG TV Theme, which goes into the 1st contact comm chatter, then to the standard music. You could just as easily have The Wrath of Khan music as the entire Federation in game music if you want. Make sure yout file is a wav, not mp3 as SFC3 uses, and that it is 16 bit Stereo, 22050.

If your music is a big enough file, the whole song will play. It is better to add the music to the zip and then alter SFCMusic.txt in assets\sound, at least for my purposes.

SFC1, well, I know that Cool Edit Pro tries to interpret the I4X format but it just comes out as static. Has anyone managed to convert that to wav or mp3?

..Because the game does not have to, and will not, remain the same..

Any news on converting the music? The SFC1 soundtrack in SF:OP would be IMHO the ultimate music mod for the game.

Hmm...my sfcmusic.zip appears to be corrupt. It doesn't contain anything. Anybody know where I can download a replacement?

You'll have to uninstall and reinstall from CD. (Ensure Anti-Virus software is disabled during install and patching). If your CD is damaged, you can get new copies of SFC pretty cheap on Amazon.com.

Cheap to ship inside the US, maybe.

It was a real hassle to get the copy I already have. Sure someone couldn't send it to me or something? That would be much simpler.

I can't help you there, its a 331 MB file and I'm on dial-up, it would take days.

Does that game play without it? Or are you stuck on installing?

Edit: Its seems to me I have observed this before on an install and using a better quality CD-Rom for installation worked. (It would install from my CD-RW but not from my older CD-ROM drive...) You might also investigate some of those CD scratch repair kits, though I've never used one - it depends on where the damage to the CD is that will determine if it is repairable. Also ensure all anti-virus software is completely disabled when attempting to install.

Bonk speaks wise.

as an aside, I had a scratch on my SFC : OP disc, but I used the old Toothpaste trick, and got it working just fine. My wife get's tickled, Because I keep a Tube of Crest by my PC now days.

If that doesn't work, let me know. If anything, I'll try to figure out this FTP thing, and upload the music files.

Hey Stephen, how did you do it (step by step) and how much toothpaste did you use for one CD?

Well what I did, was to use about the size of a fingernail of toothpaste. It's probably too much, but It gets the job done. Then I went from the center straight out to the edge of the CD, using an old Cotten towel. I then just use tap water to clean off the excess toothpaste. Dry It with the other side of the towel, and your good to go.

I know that Wal-mart also sells a Repair kit that works pretty good. It has this Silicone gel, that Fixes the cracks/scratches.

Let me know If you need more info, and I can call you to walk you through it.
