Hey guys,

I want to know how to give myself a picture next to my name in the forums.  This was explained once, in a previous thread, but after dutifully following the instructions for posting the available avatars, it didn't work.

I'm running Windows XP (if that's got anything to do with it).

Also, what if I want to put my own picture there, instead of one of the "available avatars"?  How do I do that?

And finally, why do I have 1 star next to my name?  There are folks out there with more stars than me, and I'm getting a bad case of Star Envy.

You need to have the picture you want to use out on a web site that will allow you to use the image from another site.

Many of the free hostings like angelfire and geocities won't let you reference a picture using a URL to their site from another site.  That may be your issue.

Once you have it somewhere that will allow the pic to be displayed from another site, just go into My Home, and change your profile to use that image, you have to give it the entire URL(http://www.hostname.com/subdirectory/imagename.jpg) or something like that..

Also, I don't think the pic can be more than 80 X 80 pixels.  If it is, it won't display, or at least probably won't display correctly.

Always a pleasure to explain it.
Under 'My Home', click the edit button behind the personal information. Scroll down and just below the bios you can see 'URL to your picture'. Just insert the URL and you'll have an avatar before you even realize it. (make sure the picture is hosted somewhere on the web, otherwise it will only load when you are online).

Yep, they're right. Your picture has to be on a website and 80 x 80 or smaller.

With regards to the stars, well.... The stars come as a result of people rating you with regards to your posts. I know of a couple posters here who have rated themselves with 5 stars but at some point or another someone else always brings their rating down .  Anyway, dont sweat the stars, they're pretty subjective.
