Sierra won't allow it. Someone in the community tried it back in the SFC2 days and recieved an email from Sierra to ceist and decist and that they were violating copyright. They are illegal to distribute, but if you can find someone to tell you how to convert them for your personal use, then Sierra can't really do anything about it.

plus , someone(s) once in the history made more higher higher poly versions of the HW stock ships (kushan/taiidan/bentusi) which were around 10k polys or so , could be easily to cut down to 5k/6k (cruisers, for example) and modded.

I think it could be possible.  Milkshape (a modeling program I use extensively) can inport Half-life models and export them pretty easily, but you need to find the plugins to make it possible.

I know this is possible because I saw a few guys on this board a couple of years ago able to export SFC models to HW so I'm almost certain it can work the other way around.

Also, don't listen to that crap your hearing from Sierra about threatening lawsuits.  Just BS.  Same thing happened to Ghost with his SFB stuff.  Parmount threated to sue him if he didn't take down his stuff, but legally, as long as you don't sell the models, their is nothing Sierra can do.

Trust me, I know this to be a fact because the copyright laws can only do so much.  If you don't beleive me, just check out this site and read up on US law...

Whoops!  sorry, wasn't Paramount trying to sue Ghost, it was ADB or whoever had the rights to SFB material.

I have figured out how to do it. You can use 3D Exploration and export the files into direct X model format. Then use the direct X tool in MilkShape to import it. Most Homeworld modding sites have instructions and programs that help with exptracting the Homeworld models. I suggest you do a google search and check out the utilities section on one of those sites.

Just check on the modding site for H/W

H/W Forums

Most of the stuff is done in Light Wave.

Good luck

Hey Dark Matrix, if you did the conversions, I'll take 'em. I've been wanting HW stuff for SFC for a while.

HW2 is due out soon, and it looks like more of the good stuff.
