Litterbox 3 Poll on Mandatory Missions
« on: April 18, 2003, 03:50:36 pm »
We now have mandatory missions in neutral space, but are not getting mandatory missions in allied space which is good. Question, would you rather have mandatories turn off in neutral, which would allow players to roam, scout and search for PvP, or leave it the way it is.

Should we have Mandatory missions in Neutral Space
Yes
No

Damn no vote for banning Fluf... If I start a poll on banning Fluf who will join with me and vote to Ban this evil creation from his own server?

Wow. It is a close vote (when I posted this).  I didn't think it would be but I was obviously wrong ...

I blame Fluf ...

with so much neutral space, neutral mandatories ensure the only playing with humans you'll be doing is co-op, and with the neutral co-op bug, it's pretty much pointless.  No more neutral mandatories.

Agree, thats why I was surprised to see it as close as it is.

We've got a big map but not many days to color the hexes so PvP can occur.

Well the vote is close.  I too was worried about PvP.  However looking at the map right now, the Alliance and Coaltion are just one hex away from each other.  So I have a feeling the battles are going to start to get intense now.  So there should be plenty of PvP if you want it.

Manditory Missions in neutral space are the way to go.  I know people want PvP, but with the way the map is set up now, I bet you get it.  soon the middle will be almost all PvP

What I want is more missions in your space and allied space.  Right now they are rare and it's very hard to defend an area if every time youe enemy attacks your hex he gets a mission, but you have to move in and out of the hex 8 to 10 times to get a mission.

You should almost always have the option to take a mission, especially if the DV of an allied hex is not at max.  you may chose not to take it, that's ok.  but the option should be up to you.

Hopping in and out of hexes trying to get missions has got to put some strain on the server?  Plus it causes mission draging.  Might be something to think about.

I agree JD and we hope to do some tweaking to get missions to show up more in your space.

You know how I am... I say mandatory everywhere save your own space... However, I voted no mandatory. The maps wide open spaces just spoke it to me like gospel. However... you might want to change that as things get heated up...

One cool design aspect of a new server I am thinking about is using a standard 2x with 6 races. That way I can setup a tension level to have a 3-way and use the third enemy and one of the non-played races as neutral space. Seed that races shiplist with Pirates, hehe... MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I am evil, no?

I can neither confirm nor deny this is a pic of me...

No Problem Fluff,  I do love the server so far.  Keep up the good work!

Funny thing is D2 has been dead for weeks and you guys put up a server that gets about 30 people on it and there were 5 other servers in the list(with people actually playing on them).

Old players comming out again.  It's good to see.

Manditory missions in neutral space just make more since to me.  And if you want more early PvP, you can always work that into your map (make warrng races closer to each other).

Thanks again Fluf(et. al.)

Yeah...that's been rough when you'rev trying to raise the DV of a key hex and you can't get any missions...logging out doesn't even seem to help.

I voted for mandatories everywhere but friendly space.  That's always been my position and it always will be.  PvP will happen soon enough.  If you simply have to have it right this second, go visit GSA and haggle with a BPV camper.

I don't think logging out will help. I've noticed during ISC Inv. testing that the server makes up its mind about mission matching fairly quickly.  Unless you notice the server is bogged down and lagging you should get a mission matching decision/no decision within 2 seconds max.

It actually used to seem help previously.  If you couldn't get a mission...logging out and logging back in almost always presented you with a mission your very first attempt following the procedure.  In this case, it no longer does for whatever reason.
