TNG Mega-Mod - 2nd Spring update progress report
« on: April 13, 2003, 04:55:11 pm »
The rainbow shield color was an experiment and will be changed in the upcoming update, unless people like the colors on the shield hits.

elsewhere,

I have added some new ships and the Interstellar Machine Terrain.

This terrain has hardpoints, 2 up in the sky to simulate a ship in orbit firing down on you. It will come with no weapons so you can refit it as you wish.

Deep Space Nine will be playable, but will also need to be re-fitted to play.

A lot of the BS files, the ship pics in the right hand corner of the ship select screens, have been redone and look a lot better.

New scripts for the Mega-Mod server coming from Pelican. His Dominion Wars Mod has really taken off. I am pleased to see he used some of the same ideas I used; i.e. batch files for activation, installmaker for the mod install, etc..

Many new ships added. Here's the complete Federation roster with the latest update included.
http://www.frost-works.com/cjmods/tngmegarender.htm

Only the Feds rendered so far..

Does anyone notice anything about this mod that needs fixing? If so, post here please.

Chris, what happens if you hit the ground? LOL

This is a fantastic idea! Keep up the great work!

Are those ships on your render page going to be downloadable?

CRASH.

well you can't hit the ground here. kool idea. shoot down a ship and watch it crash.

I've always liked the idea of starships over land.

The Steamrunner, Sovereign, Prometheus, and Hecate are all on SFC3 Files. Out of respect to the authors, I won't mirror downloads on my site, but I could provide links to download from the site where I got them from..

There's a few others I can put on sfc3files, but not all.

Stay Tuned.

How does that atmosphere type map work? Is it similar to the 30+ models in the space folder but like certain scripts pick it?Well I'll just see when I download your update when it comes out.Just one model question, Where did you get the danube at?Thats cool looken.

It's not a map.. It is just a really big model. So it has to be treated like one; as in it has to have Mass..etc.. in the defaultcore and specs in the defaultloadout files.

Thanx. But one problem. After all of the enemy ships are blown up,the terrain will have to be destroyed too.And if the terrain is on your side, enemy ships will shooting at.(That will work if one is san francisco).I already have the landscapes from starfleet universe.

Yea I know it's not a perfect situation. You'd have to end the game manually if you don't want to destroy the terrain.

also, I have not adapted the EAW/OP landscapes to SFC3 yet. I tried once with Saturn (Eric Mistal creation) and it just didn't load. I may have another go at it.

The ultimate thing would be to, as David Ferrell suggested once, modify the files in assets/models/space to have sky and terrain and opposed to space. Then we would not be worrying about selecting the terrain as a playable 'ship'.

perhaps I'll work on that next.

They all worked for me.I just wouldn't mind having a script that has the terrain in it.Call it Atmosheric Flight or something. But all well.Get what u get.By they way,in some of your render pics there is a planet in the backround(looks like earth). Is that a landscape of just something you added into the pics? One more bad thing about the landscapes is that they are bigger than the playing field(even with the largest map)

Actually, you can bypass the game not ending problem using the scripts. You can have a neutral team which does not need to be destroyed (and if you give it the planet property, cannot be destroyed), not difficult really.

OK - I'll put the entire Eric Mistal landscape collection into the next update.

They were designed bigger than the map on purpose originally, as I recall.

Pelican - If I zip and send up the terrain landscape with specs can you write a dyna or maybe just single player mission around it using the ships you know are in my mod?

You'd be the man. well you already are.

another scripting friend of mine, Centauri Vaughn, is working on something for me as well. This next update is shpaing up rather nicely!

That Earth picture is a NASA pic..

quite nice, i thought.

I thought it said in the read-me file that it couldn't be a planet. The whole if you run into a planet and blow up thing. And you are IN the landscape.Do you got me.I never tried it myself though. But the only way it can be neutral is if its in a script.Yes,I do love SFC3.But I just bought a copy of Elite Force-I(I'm goin to get EFII when it comes out).So its going to be old for a couple of days.Only because I only have 5 levels to go and I just now got the cheats.Cool.

True, I suppose it cannot be a planet, but it's still doable.

Just send me the stuff CJ, I'll see what I can do.
