A thought about a campaign

Anybody interested in doing a frigate/light cruiser class war? Personal curiosity. Has it been tried?

CL's have to be the most awful ships in the game....well except the D6 that is......

My bad, I was referring to hull classes. CL's would incluude medium cruiser types and Frigates would include many destroyer types.

Maybe, but NCLs and medium/war cruisers are pretty darn good. Personally, I prefer D5s over D7s.

If I recall correctly, CW had a "Frigate hell" campaign at one point. There was also the "vanilla" list campaign. In both cases, it was a "loved it" or "hated it" reaction depending on player preference.

Part of the problem is balance: some races are much better than others in their FF/CL classes. Some have great DDs but lousy FFs, etc.

Only way to see how much people like it is to try it.

Personally I love flying CLs, preferably the CWs, and most preferably the CW leaders. I would play on this style of campaign.

And Mace, I completely disagree with your statement. A D5L, CWLP, CDD etc in the right hands are a good match for heavy cruisers, and they would eat a D6 alive.

You're right but I don't consider a D5 a CL.  Thats a CW, different class all together.  I was thinking he was going for a vanilla list with only CL's and FF's and those classes only.

D6, F5, etc  and thats all.  He clarified it above.  I agree with you and the D5L is one of my favorites as well.  I usually fly it for most of the campaigns I've been on.  And, I can't say I've ever flown a D6 on D2....except maybe on 4 powers.

This'd get my vote for a short-run or fun server - I love the smaller ships for most races.

But then I liked the vanilla campaign too, go figure

Gee, hmm . . ., let me think about this.   Considering my best ship is the F-CLC, sign me up!!

I don't have a problem with that but only if you consider that the KHK is only an average CWL and the FHK is an adequate DD. As for the SPL and SPJ, they are substandard FF. Thank you for putting those ships in those classes.

P.S. RP off
In early, our FF (SNB) and our CL (WE) really suck. We can't do convoy raid with one trans and one shuttle to get lots of PvP by capturing. Also, speed 20 on WE makes it hard to catch up the convoy!. Our DD (BH) is adequate. Please, don't start such a campaign in early era.

I'd probably be interested in doing this if it started late early or at the beginning of middle era.  As long as I can start in a D5C, I'm happy...heheh.

CW did you a "Frigate Hell" fun server a long while back.  It was kind of fun.  It exposed a few races' serious weakness at the FF and DD ship class.  They ended up having to allow a few more ships into the mix to make it relatively competitive, as I recall.

I'm with Nomad...D5s over D7s, any day of the week.  Hell, D5s over anything in the Klingon arsenal period until the C7 comes out.  Stock D5 over D7C.  That is the measure of my love for the D5 hull.

Agreed.  A "War Crusier" campaign should start in Middle Era.

Now wait just a second, noble Dog-like one! Using the words "love, D5, hull" together in a sentence is bordering on the edge of sanity -- at least if using the Taldren stock model. I really need to get around to replacing that thing. It looks like a small freighter. I mean, who ever heard of a self-respecting Klingon flying something that looks like that?

By the way, can anyone recommend a really good D5 model?

If anyone can get around to making the TV model of the D5 I might even consider learning how to fly Klingon!!!

I'd love to play a CW campaign.  I just sliced up a L-CL and a L-CA on the Litterbox last night in my H-SAR!!  Hydran frigates kick ass, with the ISC a close second.  I just can't get over a 2-turn Alpha cycle at speed 31!!  I think the Lyran AI needs to be a bit smarter with its ESG use.  I only saw the CA use its ESG once on my Lancer distraction unit, and that was after I killed the CL.  Did I mention it fired out of range?

With all due respect, kills against ai are not really that much of an accomplishment. Do it against a real Lyran player, and then tell us about it. Meow

I use P81's K'Vort for my KCL.  I always thought of that ships are the Larger Bird of Prey in SFB.  Makes flying the K-DWC very fun.

If I can find any, they're all the way across the map!  Anyway, I know any self-respecting Kat wouldn't let anything within range 2 without the ESG's going off.  Besides, I've flown the CL before, and it really is a piece of crap; I could've taken it with an SNB.

Atrahasis' D5 model is the one I've been using since he created it.  Accept no substitutes.  Mine has been modifed (by my once good friend Gow, whom I miss) to put a "Dogmatix" logo on the wings and some "kill" stamps.

If I had a place to host a piccy, I'd post it.  It looks better than Fleetdock's, IMHO.

The K'Vort models should be used for K-DD.  B'Rel models for K-FF.  My humble opinion, of course.
