Announcing Reclamation Start Date
« on: April 16, 2003, 07:34:52 am »
Nomad and Castrin were up until about 3AM putting in a final fix for the server -- it is now working as it should.

As of right now, barring any other major issues, start date for Reclamation is TODAY -- 16 April 2002.  We are looking at running it until 01 May 2003.  Our end date will depend on a number of issues, including victory conditions achieved, the player base, and other servers coming online in EAW, etc.

Remaining issues:

Chat is still a problem.  We are considering options at this time, but until GSA comes around or wherever the problem is originating, we are sort of stuck.  the /tell function still works.  There is a possibility that an Roger Wilco server will be set up or made available.  If any of you want to set up a RW base station, your assistance will be greatly appreciated.  We may be setting up an RW base ourselves.  If so, then we will post the pertinent information here for the players -- the IP addresses, and how to obtain access.

One account per player please (which means one race per player).  This is mostly for new players that may be attracted to the campaign and want to try out OP instead of SFC3.

If you have an issue in the game with another player or with the game itself, please feel free to email any of the SFCX team.  All of us are available to help resolve any issues -- this is a light campaign, so there will be no specific "race moderators" in the game, although if the normal pattern is followed, there are often those individuals that do rise to the occasion to lead their forces to victory

Our goal is to have fun!  for your side to be the most effective, I would highly encourage you to go to the SFCX website and take a look at the Reclamation Victory Conditions.  This will give you an idea as to where you need to go to gain victory points leading up to a "win".

Hope to see you in Reclamation tonight!

Regards,

Tempest

Reclamation is up and running. If you see the server, feel free to jump in and start shooting.

The RW channels are (quoting Castrin):

Quote:

65.30.190.215/Reclamation/General
65.30.190.215/Reclamation/Federation
65.30.190.215/Reclamation/Romulan
65.30.190.215/Reclamation/Klingon
65.30.190.215/Reclamation/Gorn
65.30.190.215/Reclamation/Hydran
65.30.190.215/Reclamation/ISC
65.30.190.215/Reclamation/Lyran
65.30.190.215/Reclamation/Kzin

Additional channels can be made as "sub" channels (i.e. 65.30.190.215/Reclamation/Kzin/KAT) under the main ones. No passwords but as they are all dynamic so a password can be added but only by the first one that opens the channel.

We are looking into hosting our own IRC server just for this campaign -- we'll let everyone know when we have fully working chat.

not to make everyone switch voice comms or anything, but i'm sort of a conoisseur of them, to say.

I've used RW, BFC, Teamspeak, Teamsound, Gamevoice.. you name the voice comm s/w i've used it. Then, I used http://www.ventrilo.com ,  Ventrilo. Absolutely blows away all of its predecessors. it boasts telephone or greater voice quality, the ability to 'queue' everyone so that ppl just don't speak over each other chaotically, if 2 messages come to you, it plays the 1st to arrive in real-time and then plays the 2nd seamlessly, without any chaotic din.

ALSO! it allows you to import .WAV files and Text-To-Speech (TTS), for playback to other ppl that have them as well. You could take samples from past star trek movies, shows, other genres (one of my favs is Bruce Willis saying 'Yipeekiyay mofo' from die hard ), and etc and have them there to taunt your enemy/friends with. It takes a LITTLE bit of work, as long as you know how to browse through windows explorer and read a few help files, its very easy to do though. I imagine MOST ppl here wouldn't have a problem setting up the expanded features like the .WAV files and TTS.

its a FREE product and has better quality. i highly recommend it to expand your multilpayer gaming experience

The only thing i haven't tested with it is Dial-up. i'm not sure how it works, i imagine fine, but lower quality.

AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Code:

Vancouver Island 169s

Due to network difficulties, ADSL customers on Vancouver Island may be experiencing difficulty
obtaining an IP address and connecting to the internet.

No **** Batman!

I'm getting dropped every 5-10 minutes today - guess I'll have to wait a bit to get on Reclamation properly

Well, Dave, If i was in your shoes.......  I'd hop in the car, (or walk)  down to The Sticky Wicket, and have a few beers.  Maybe crank up the 100.3 and listen to some tunes with the crack ups that work there, (I'm pretty sure Ed Bain is done for the day).   Perhaps pop in one of Wide Mouth Mason's CD's and rock out a bit.  Perhaps its time for a little shoppping at the Costco in Langford?     Well, thats if I was in your shoes.......  but I'm not.    *SIGH*

Heh,  that's a much better plan than sitting here tinkering with mission scripts

We might have to stray past the Stonehouse when the dogs and I go for a walk this afternoon ... gotta get properly warmed up for tonight's games y'know!

Oh, so THAT's why you disappeared. I'll have you know you left behind a colorful assortment of AI markers in an asteroid hex. I think you're the first to freeze some widows on the map. Congrats!

So far, I've seen Romulan, Hydran, Klingon, Federation, Lyran, and ISC players on. We need some Gorn and (gasp!) Kzinti.

Personally, I'd advise you all to grow your economy so you see more than 2 ships in the yard, but that's just me. The plasma races will see more at the start because the game is in their backyard and they have a little more territory.

LOL - I was in a very busy courier mission when the connection went down, so I'll bet there were a lot of little buddies left behind on the map

Well,  I haven't dropped in about 40 minutes now, so if it's still up after lunch I'll go back in for another round

Never heard of the Stonehouse before,  but then again, I moved out of Sequim 2 years ago and now I cannot get the good Canadian radio stations over here on the Seattle Eastside.  *pout*   But, I was able to catch WMM live last weekend up in Maple Ridge,  apparently they were at Ledgends a few days before........

In case you hadn't noticed...  I LOVE Victoria!

Cheers Eh?

Crim, that's Dave's fault.

Actually, they aren't too bad if you get decent AI helpers. I was doing fine in an L-DWP against Gorn (and I suck at plasma defense) until I:

1. Crashed into an asteroid

2. Let 2 Gorn ships, including a battle tug escort variant, nail my L-DDD

I'm now in an L-DDP and hoping to survive long enough to get into a CW sometime today.

Oh, and yes, the server is down. It should be back up as soon as Castrin can log back in, but something made the machine restart.

ugh mano, you are right. what the hell could they be doing? it redirects me to some sort of 'ROLLOUT' URL so perhaps they are planning on bigger and better things. i hope it stays freeware.

i did a google search and it doesn't look like there are any other mirrors. but i imagine someone has to have it, fileshack or fileplanet. if you can find it, i highly recommend you get a copy, its a great app about 2x the app stability and sound quality as RW and the others.
