What are BATTLEZONE and The Wheel?  I've never seen any talk about either, but they do seem to be up most of the time.

Yes, The Wheel is up and running.

The Wheel - Status (Forums thread... a bit out of date...)

I have been having trouble with the chat server as of late.
As others are I imagine. (Haven't checked peerchat.gamespy.com
for the last few days but I assume it is still down)
I am using a local chat server, but it seems to be causing disconnects
(same trouble DarkElf had with it back in 7.25 or something...)

I am trying to arrange with GamesNET.net to use them instead
of gamespy. They approved a trusted entry for the multiple
connections from the server but the #support channel Ops got
pretty upset when I asked to register 10 channels - banned instantly!
I am in e-mail contact with them however - I'll see how it goes...
Hopefully peerchat.gamespy.com will return soon! (wonky as it was...)

The "/tell" command seems to work even if chat is down...
I could leave chat down for now for stability and we can stick to the
/tell command and RW?

The Wheel Crew is hard at work on a couple of maps - both very
different from any we've seen...

The Wheel is due for a reset as this was its first test run really.
I could run a minor/fun campaign in the interim? Could use any map
shiplists or missions desired if anyone has a package ready...

Bear in mind however that The Wheel is limited in resources
and could really only support a dozen players at a time? (havent tried more)
but that would probably be enough to keep us occupied till the next big server...

Let me know what you think... if not, a reset is due soon anyway - I think the
new map will be very interesting, and the settings will be quite a bit more difficult.

I have found a an irc network that replaces
peerchat.gamespy.com.

irc.krono.net - It seems to work so far...

note the chat.gf file has a "0" in front of the first chat server...
I added a "1" like this in my chat.gf file:

 Code:
 [IRCServers\Address]
0="peerchat.gamespy.com"
1="irc.krono.net"

I'm pretty sure the D2 server goes down the list till it finds one that works
from what I've seen.

I will add more irc networks that will tolerate the D2 server chat channels
to the list as I discover (get banned from) them.

I found this irc network on this list: networks of the Internet Relay Chat .
If anyone else finds any that work be sure to let us know!

The main problem with Battlezone(other than it being a battleship fest) is that it's set for speed 10....ick.

Gak!  Roger that, "The Wheel" it is then!  Or The Wheel/Flufbot thing, if they hook up after all.  Or maybe both if they don't.

I need about another 24 hours and I will have a campaign together.  Ill get with you Rajnsaj and see what we can come up with.  But with the way people are chomping at the bit here, I have a feeling we are going to get some players, so the Wheel might not be able to handle the load.

Maybe I can get Frey and XenoCorp to help us out here, or just send the package to DarkElf and have him put it up on the SFC2.net server on XenoCorp.  Will let everybody know soon.  Hope to have something going by tomorrow night with luck.

I would greatly prefer to have SG3 be able to use a general chat channel... I feel that the experience w/o it is a bit lonely. Its just kinda boring, like it's black and white. The chat function goves you the color to the campaign. I like being able to trash talk my enemy... Otherwise, the server is just limp and lifeless... I dont like it w/o chat.

/tell just doesnt cut it.

What stability issues would result from having chat? never heard it was a prob b4...

Just stability issues with respect to the D2 server and a certain local chat server.
(bircd) For some reason when run on the same machine as the D2 server it seems
to cause player disconnects from the D2 server (could be a setting for bircd somewhere?).

peerchat.gamespy.com did not give me this trouble when it was up, but would kick the
server from the chat channels (as it crashed?).

irc.krono.net seems to be pretty stable so far, and if they don't take offense I would reccomend
it for SG3 or other D2 servers too. (the honor.mi.us.krono.net is the one that seems to work well
with the D2 server - using the irc.krono.net address as opposed to their new regional domains)

Yes the BB fest does suck on BZ , But i've been running my DNH ( USS Rat-Trap ) for 2 month's.

But the server does need some tweaking. IE: way too easy to flip // etc..

I ain't got no Badlands...

Please, fellas, help a brother out...I'm posting song lyrics with double negatives...I'm sure that I'm close to breaking...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET SOMETHING UP, HURRY!!

Badlands is back up, FYI. I was out of town and the server (of course) decided it didn't want to play anymore and took it's toys and went off to pout. It's feeling better now.

On a seperate but related note, I have a question: are others having problems with peerchat.gamespy.com? I was politely told to "go to frell" when I contacted GS about the fact that I couldn't connect to their IRC server. Frey also tested the chat server and was able to connect just fine but yet I see here that I'm not alone with chat problems ... or at least it seems.

Can the other admins respond here about chat connectivity please! I want to get an idea of the true level of the problem (i.e. is it just me or is it more wide spread).
