Your favorite ship and load-out
« on: January 24, 2003, 09:39:56 am »
I'm suprised no one has asked this earlier.

My two are a Defiant with pulse phasers, quatum torps, and a huge thruster and impulse upgrade. If I play it just right, I can take an unescorted  Warbird by staying on his aft quarter if he has it lightly covered or not at all. I also like the Galaxy with type XS phasers in all primary slots and the heavies filled with photorps. I usually suck with larger starships, but if I get the thruster capacity high enough on a Galaxy, she can pull some pretty nasty stuff and there is nowhere the enemy is safe.

And Swordsman, you must test your ship against humans. Taking down an AI warbird is not even half as difficult as taking down a human one, or if it was a human, he didn't quite know how to fly it

I agree with you on the defiant, its just not a defiant w/o pulse phasers, and why have 3 phots when 2 Qs are better?

My other ship is an Intrepid, phaser XFs in the two front and the omni mount, phaser IXS on the nacelle mounts, and 2 Q torps pointed foreward.  I rarely ever upgrade impulse, usually use the engine mass for a big enough warp core to power everything, and maneuvering thrusters to make the ship perform an HET without clicking the HET button (available only on the Defiant and Sabre currently   )

I only fly the heavier ships (Galaxy, Nebula, Soverign) if I have to, since its like flying a brick even with a full thruster refit.

The TV-style defiant is also my personal favorite.   In its present state, the TV version cannot be made due to insufficient weapon mass.  The ship is also a little bit too good with 4 forward heavy weapon mounts.  My suggestion: allow only 2 forward heavies, and add 1 aft heavy mount.  Also, the 2 primary weapon mounts on the bustard (sp?) collectors should have overlapping forward arcs. Everything else seems OK.

Too bad there's just no way to add the dorsal phaser protrayed in "Shattered Mirror," but then again, it was used only once during DS-9's TV run.

I also like the Galaxy decked out with phasers (1x12F and 8x10S). You can easily switch between 2 x forward Q-torps and 3 x photorps as needed (same mass and cost).

With a type-IX core all those overloaded phasers are pretty nasty - but you need good maneuverability to use them efficiently.

My favorite is the Vor'cha, still working on finding the best refit for it.

Favorite ship is a Federation Miranda Hull with a .67 move cost and a Class C turn mode.   I have her equipped with 2 Phaser 1s FH, 3 Phaser 1s LS, and 3 Phaser 1's RS.  She has 4 Photon Torps in the Forward arc and 2 G-racks for heavy weapons.

She's old, but she's a beauty . . .

Vor'cha, 4 type IV fast dizzies, 2 photons, man that thing's a bruiser!
The Raptor with 3 plasma H and 4 disruptors is also a heavy hitter...

For a DD I'll take the K'vort. It can outrun and outmaneuver any other DD around and just look at these 4 primary hardpoints
