.. and this access server would probably be related to the Badlands server not being there either, huh?

Which Access server?  The EAW/OP server appears to be running.

Thanks,

Dave

As if we needed another reason to be independent of GameSpew

I've got an idea.... perhaps if we were all willing to use another forum to pester each other on, Taldren could host the access server on the box they're hosting the forums on.  That seems to be a better use of their resources.  I'm almost certain everyone here has an account at SFC2.net (though my password there eludes me at the moment...).  If it's a lot more resource intensive than I'm thinking, then I'd be willing to pay for it, up to a limit, like maybe $10/month(?) for those months with a major server running of course.

Apparently this was the SFC3 access server and is now back up.

Thanks,

Dave

Nothing to do with GSA, The access server is a version / CD key checker at Activision. Dan usually checks on it every 2-3 hours except this past weekend when he was away. Lastnight's outtage was reported to him at about 11:00PM PST (although server went down around 9PM PST) and the server is back up at about 12AM PST.

Why does the server seem so unstable? It does not sound like it is actually doing that much besides checking CD keys. If Activision is going to require usage of this server they should have 24/7 access with a robust failover and notification system. It sounds to me like some code needs to be cleaned up or the server needs to be reconfigured.

Btw, I am not blaming Dan. If Activision needs some help in this department (making it more robust) I would be happy to volunteer my services
