Just got ST-SFC3.....some MP questions.......please help me
« on: April 04, 2003, 10:16:44 pm »
Hey all, just got ST-SFC3 and what a rockin game! --However, I have some questions aboutt Multiplayer Skirmish, setting a server, etc; -I am disappointed with the lack of attention they gave to the in-game MP server options and stuff for running a solo MP skirmish server and apparent lack of being able to run yur own MP Campaign.

--Questions...................
1)Does in-game MP browser only support a Max of 6-Players!?......is there any way to run a server with more than 6?

2)Where can I set permanent adjustments to my MP server like # of players, client rate, max points, etc;? Do this in one of the .ini's?.......is this even possible at all?

3) Is MP Campaign only available if we go through Dinaverse3/Gamespy?...........If so, this would really freakin suck. -We should have FULL options to customize our own server in-game whichever way we like.

4) A buddy and myself installed some custom ships that we dl'd and they show in the game fine but when I try to start the server I get some pop-up referencing to him having different/modified files and on his end the same for me. We both installed the same damn ships. Do custom ships not work in MP??

Any help/input is greatly appreciated!
-Thanks,~S!TH

6 is the maximum in a single match, not on a server.. a server is stable with 30+ players on it... if you are playing Dynaverse online campign

Gamespy Arcade and playing on a LAN party are limited to 6 people per match...

If you ae talking about Gamespy Arcade, you set up that information for each individual match, same for Lan party or PC to PC.... For the Campaign servers or Dynaverse as it is called, follow the link in above posting for the best source of customising a campaign.. that is if you are going to host an online Campaign server.

SFC 3 validates CD keys through Gamespy Arcade, so yes.. all players have to have a gamespy arcade account.. sorry....

SFC 3 Campaign MP mode is like the single player Conquest mode of the game, not 1 vs 1 quick kill action... for that you have to go through Gamespy Arcade lobby for SFC 3 or through LAN parties or PC to PC... there you can set up games like single player Skirmish mode...

As for running a campaign server or Dynaverse as it is called, you just need to Download a server kit and follow the guide in the link in the post above in order to learn how to configure the server to your specifications... If you change any of the spec files for the ships, you will need to make a download pack available for players to get in order to join your server.. and the files in your server kit have to match the files in your game (or vica-versa) or you won't be able to join your own campaign server...

Everyone you are playing with online has to have the exact same set up that you have in order for the game to work correctly.. this is to prevent cheating by editing files before a match.... Even if you both got the same ships... maybe he or you edited something i the specs files and that is what is showing up as an error...

as for online Dynaverse, you have to have the files that the server is running at the time... most fun servers are Stock game files, serious campaigns have Specialized campaign files that need to be downloaded and added to the game replacing Stock files... and as such, backups of the originals are needed to go back to normal games...

Adding information to your *.gf files, and/or your DefaultLoadout.txt and your DefaultCore.txt is great for single player, but online, those files are checked for tampering... and as such, will show up as cheats in Gamespy Arcade or the Dynaverse server will not allow you in because the files are altered... (possible cheats)

Alrighty, thanks so much for your help guys. --I'm too used to standard FPS multiplayer so all this Dynaverse stuff threw me for a loop. -I really never get into these types of games but SFC3 grabbed me bigtime and wont let go. Just an awesome game though a higher max-players limit for a server would have been sweet.... like 16 for example.
--The battles are sweet and exciting among my buds.

-Why did they only make SFC3 mp only 6 max.?
