Please explain how this Dynaverse3 works......
« on: April 04, 2003, 10:18:03 pm »
Hey all. Just got ST-SFC3 and I'm really in the dark on how this Dynaverse3 stuff works. Where do I dl this Dynaverse3 kit? Will I still be able to host games just among me and my friends in-game? Is 6-players/ships including bots the MAX for in-game non-dedicated server hosting?

-I would very much appreciate it if some1 could explain this all to me because I have tried browsing through multiple forums, sites, etc; for help and just got totally lost. The SFC3 manual is good for **** either.

-Thank You, ~S!TH

Going by single player reference for game modes.... these are your possibilities :

Single player skirmish mode :  this mode  in Multiplayer is designed for 1 vs 1  quick action... this mode in MP is played through Gamespy Arcade lobbies for SFC 3 and games are set up like Single player skirmish mode and support only 6 players in game at a time....

Singleplayer Campaign mode : in Multiplayer mode of this, it is like your Single Player Conquest campaigns, these are done on the Dynaverse and can host supposedly up to 64 people at a time (some more, some less), in the server, it is like playing the campaign in single player mode only with other people online.. a single battle only allows for 6 humans to engage in battle at one time on the game map (if all the humans are in the same hex)...

Dynaverse Server Kits are available for hosting the online campaign mode... there are no kits available for running your own Skirmish mode... your only options are LAN Party, PC to PC, or Gamespy Arcade.. and those settings are set up after game launch just like Skirmish mode play...

also if you want to get rid of some of the bugs in the game, Activision released a Public Beta patch that most people are now using... also when using SFC 3.. the game may have been made for use with Direct X 8.1, but game performance is geared more toward Direct X 9, so upgrading is a good idea...

SFC 3 has 2 different type of patches on the Activision site...
the first patch is the SFC 3 Direct X 9 Fix Patch .. this is because SFC 3 did not recognize Direct X 9 when the game came out (Direct X 9 had not been released at that time).. so if you plan on running a out of box game with direct X 9, then use this patch...

If you plan on using the Beta Patch version of the game, then do not get the Direct X 9 fix patch as the 2 patches together will cause game to error.... Beta Patch has the Direct X 9 fix built in...

also Direct X 9 is recommended as most players have upgraded to Direct X 9 and Microsoft has stated that Direct X 8.1 and Direct X 9 are Direct Play incompatible and will cause game drops, lag, game errors, lock-ups... etcetra....

Taldren staff has recommended for EVERYONE to upgrade to Direct X 9 for online playability against those who already have Direct X 9....

Hope that this information helps

remember- don't DL the dynaverse server kit unless you're planning on a dedicated server.  You can go on GameSpy Arcade and do a game with up to 6 players, on teams or free for all.  Dynaverse is long term.
