Help a newbie!

This will probably come as a really stupid question for most of you, as I looked around the forums and only saw one other person with the same type of problem/complaint about the game.

I've spent the last day and a half playing (about 10 hours total) just the Tutorials.  I'm fairly good with the interface now, general weapons use, cloaking, etc...  but here's the problem:  I can't even win the 7th tutorial scenario against the Nebula class Federation Starship.  The damn thing kills me every time (3 times now over 1.5 hours each battle).

Is there something I'm doing wrong, or completely missing?  General strategy against a foe is 1) Cloak,  2) Get to his most damaged shield side for an attack, 3) Uncloak outside his weapon range on that arc, 4) Move in at max impulse, 5) Fire heavy weapons when in range, and phaser-type at close range, 6) Avoid taking damage as well as possible, 7) Cloak after he's retaliated.

So, someone please help and throw me a bone here.  This is getting to be utterly maddening when I can't even finish the stupid tutorial.  I feel as though I should just take the game right back to the store and complain that my IQ isn't high enough or something, because I couldn't even finish the tutorials.

Thanks in advance guys!

Don't return the game, somebody will help you (not me, I suck)

The problem is most people don't play tutorials, so they might not have actually tried to beat it.

I haven't done the tutorials.  I highly recommend you practice vs players.  Computers usually follow patterns, people don't.  I've become an expert toasting newbies  What type of ship are you flying vs the nebula?  If your shots are missing, try tractoring him (even briefly, at level 1).  Tractor will increase your chances of hitting by several times because it will hold him in place, even for only a moment.  Also if you have a fast, small ship, try dropping mines in front of him. Mining is a skill- you have to time it right.  Mining is my favorite tactic, i've nuked many a newbie that suddenly realized he had waited too long to turn away

Try going on GameSpy or the dynaverse and practice there.

Also vs this nebula, what speed are you going?  I recommend going just under 1/2 impulse.  That gives you a good speed and turn rate.  At full impulse you can't turn worth beans, at 1/4 or below you move too dang slow.  And btw, don't cloak unless you're behind him, cloaking while in front of his weapons is suicide.

I thought that tutorial was really easy. It's the Romulan one, where you're in a Raptor against a Nebula.

I only cloaked once to get close, then uncloaked a way out to draw his fire, then I came in, fired all weapons, and did a high-energy turn to get on the Neb's rear. After that, I over-loaded my forward shield, and followed the nebula closely until he fell apart from my volleys.

Easy.

Jaga, be sure you have the patch installed.  Romulans ships and weapons were improved with the patch. (balanced?)
Donīt cloack too much. Be careful with that because you are too vulnerable when you cloak. Playing as a Romulan you know you will have internal damage. But you must control it.
And, I know people will complain about this, target the Warp Core as soon as the enemy shields are down. Hey, he is only playing against AI anyway.-

Might I suggest that you register at BattleClinic, then upload the recording of your mission into the REPLAYS section. People can then download it and see exactly what you're doing wrong, and give you better assistance.

If you need to know how to do all of this, just hit the FAQ at BattleClinic.
