Help> How can I convert SFC2 models to SFC3 models?
« on: April 06, 2003, 11:28:29 pm »
Hello all. I just got SFC3 and I absolutely love it! -I've been doing tnothing but searching and dl'ing for tutorials,tools,ships,etc;........my eyes are burning, so many places to look and so much read!  -But yet, I cannot find anywhere a simple guide that tells one how to convert SFC2 models to SFC3 models.

-It's amazing as to how there are so many ships out there for SFC2 (which I dont have). I found a buttload of Star Wars ships made for SFC2 and I'm freakin' dying to use them in SFC3! :-o
-I found one place/guide but it's obviously made for way advanced modelers/modders with high experience. :-?

http://www.themackiestuff.com/atheorhaven/html/alec/m1m2s1_1.htm

-I dont understand alot of it. :-(
--I have all the necessary proggys like 3DSMax4&5,Milkshape1.6.5, and now have all the tools&plugins I need.

--Can someone help a noob out?

--Thanks,~S!TH

There is another tutorial at http://www.frost-works.com/stc/ .  But I don't really think you will need it with me around.    Just provide me with a link to the ship you want converted from SFC2 to SFC3, I'll convert it, and then post it for download.

Thanks Vichama, thats very damn cool of you. It has always been a dream of mine to have a StarWars VS. StarTrek battle in a gamne like this.
-I dont reaklly care about Dynaverse3 campaign mp play. I mainly just play SFC3 hardcore with a regular group of buds in the games mp skirmish.

-I just found out a thread at SFC3.net forum that a dude named Kreeargh already made a few SW ships for sfc3........
 http://sfc3.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=388607626&f=301608436&m=6226012672&r=8836038482#8836038482

-I started a StarTrek to StarWars -SFC3 conversion mod, just mnainlky ideas, textures, and layouts right now, but i'm an00b at this modeling stuff so my head is spinning bigtime with all the know-how info I've been trying to absorb over last couple days.

-Here's a link with all the Star Wars ships SFC2 models   Can you convert these?.............Or atleast the Star Destroyers?
........ok, I'll even settle for one Star Destroyer-LMAO
Rebel Alliance  and  Galactic Empire SFC2 ships

-Also, another idea........is it possible to convert the shuttles in MP skirmish to mini xwings and tie-fighters?

-Thanks a million! ~S!TH

Oh, one more thing........
--How do I add more (custom) races to choose from in MP skirmish so I can use these custom ships? -I dl'd and installed a few custom models which were not Borg,Fed,Rom, or Kling affiliated but the game wouldnt let me choose them because all it would show in the drop down for races were the games 4 defaults.

-If you would like to contact me and talk about this stuff........

Nevermind, I figured it out that you have to just a line in DefaultLoadOut and DefaultCore under a ships attributes.....copy&paste then edit what you want and that ship will show under whatever Race faction you put it under.

-At the SFC3.net forum ran across this Kreeargh dude that is working on alot of Star Wars models for SFC3 and he finished a few of them.
 http://sfc3.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=388607626&f=301608436&m=6226012672&r=5496050582#5496050582

-I tweaked  Kreeargh's  Xwing and Ywing pretty well. Rearranged the weapons hardpoints accurately a bit since they needed a little work as well as the arcs. -Xwing now has phasers on all four wing tips along with duel photon-torpedo bursts on the nose. Also.....on the Ywing I redid it so it has 2 345_15 phasers on the nose where the guns are, a 330_30 torpedo on each wing tip, duel 150_210 torpedoes in the rear, a 0_360 arc phaser in the middle of the body where the rotating guns are, and a phaser on each wing tip.....hehehehe. I didnt want phasers on the wing tips but the game wouldnt load the model with the #1 and #2 hardpoints not used.

-Anyway, that guy did a great job on the models ....they made my day/night/morning-LOL

--A couple problems with the Tie-Fighter and Tie-Interceptor though. For the Tie-Fighter, the grid pic where you reallocate the weapons isnt wont show and for the Tie-Interceptor same thing plus theres no skin in the game.-As far as the no-skin I think I know why. Seems theres a couple missing textures images for that one so the game has nothing to go by to draw the skin
--I installed them as seperate models......I'm not sure if I was supposed to or maybe they meant to be in the same folder somehow? -I'm kinda confused on how to install his Bwings too since he has 3 types in the same folder and seems like they are sharing images.

If the xwings and tie fighters are shuttle size then all you have to do is replace the stock shuttle with either model.  Pick one of these ships that you really want first and I will start there.  If not then you will have to find someone to scale them down for ya.  I'm not sure if anyone has found out how to add entirly new species.  Although I think I could be wrong.  I think you have to add 1 of each kind of ship minus the Battleship.  Maybe I'll figure that out and make the Rebels and Empire playable.  I'm not real sure about the skin thing but I will figure it out as im converting them.
