Topic: Need help with Borg Campaign Mission 1

Yup, it's me again, the guy who couldn't get past "Elusive Quarry" (which I finally managed to beat).  After having nearly beaten the Federation campaign (I don't feel like playing the last two missions until I get lucky and the planets don't blow up), I decided to start the Borg campaign, and have had real problems doing just the first mission.  No matter what I do, it seems like I can't take out all the ships escorting the field generating asteroids and the freighters without taking severe damage to my internal systems.

I feel like maybe I'm not playing the Borg right, or that I'm not using some key aspect of their ships that I don't know about.  I know their armor regenerates and they don't have shields, but beyond that they seem like normal ships.  Am I missing something?  For those of who you have gotten past this mission, what did you do?

fist off, if you are using the Beta patch, the armor does not regenerate, the ship hull does...

second... try ignoring the Orion ships and just take out then Primary targets ASAP... then go for the freighters..... you will stilll win the mission without killing the Orions off the bat.... jsut get the freighters before taking on the Orions as their primary source of fire will then direct to the Freighters, and secondly to you... meaning you last longer to take them out....

also when going toward the freighters, use tactical warp to get to them.... that way you will only have to fight only 1 or 2 Orion ships instead of 6

Borg are actually very different from the other race's ships, and you will need to master a different set of tactics to fly them effectively.

That said, pestalence has good advice about taking out the correct targets.

Some other Borgy things to know:
1. Your tractor beam is a weapon. When you're in the tractor panel, charge your tractor and click the "weapon" button. When your tractor engages on it's target, it will be green instead of blue, indicating that it is in weapon mode. It will drain shields first and then start crushing the enemy's hull.

2. Max out your armor at the expense of other systems.

3. Max out your engines after you max out your armor.

4. Create ships with less weapons that fire faster. More hits over time, even though they do less damage will ultimately serve you better.

5. Close on target, tractor, rotate target, fire until dead, repeat.

Now stop playing single player and come join us on a Dynaverse server!
