SFC OP Era Problem - Occurs after install of 2500-2538 Patch
« on: March 30, 2003, 01:03:59 pm »
Hey guys I'm new here and I did some looking to see if this was brought up by anyone else but I didn't see anything related to it.

Well here is the problem.

I got a new computer.

2GHz
256MB RAM
Integrated Sound and (I think) Integrated Video Cards

I'll get more later if you need more.  But that is a major improvement from my old computer.

Well anyway:

When I install SFC OP on my computer and go in to play (this is all before installing the patch) I can start an Advanced Era Campaign where as you all know you get the Advanced ships right away.  Well when I install the patch the Advanced Era starts me off in the Middle Era.  Advanced Era is a date like 4000+ and Middle is 2263 or something like that.  Is this just me or what?  I unstalled and reinstalled the game and patch.  There is no saved game.  I just went in to see if the Era's worked and stuff.

Any help you guys can give would be appreciated.

May I be brief?
It's broken. I re-reported it to Taldren recently. Oh. I didn't. I will after this post.

Work-around:

Edit MetaAssets\ServerProfiles\SinglePlayer\Time.gf

There's a part which looks like this:
Code:

[Clock/StartingDate]
BaseYear   = 2263
0         = 0
1         = 10
2         = 20

0 = Early. 1 = Mid. 2 = Late. Edit the era you don't use.
 ie:
Code:

// 0         = 0
0         = 40

.. and when you use 'early' in a single-player campaign, you should get 2303, which is in Taldren's advanced era.

OK thanks.

But now there is the problem of stupidity in play here.  Can you explain a little how I go in and change what needs to be changed?

And would I still be able to play Early Era with that fix?

Find the install directory for SFC:OP. (Usually "c:\program files\Taldren Software Inc\StarFleet Command Orion Pirates\" or something like that)
Go to the subdirect I mentioned above.
Edit "Time.gf" and do the change I suggested. Notepad's all you need.

.. then save and start a campaign in early. It should set it up in Advanced era nonetheless.

.. the "//" are used to comment out the line. Just comment out the new line and restore the old one to be able to start early-era single player campaigns. This file only affects the single player campaigns.. not GSA online play nor online D2 play.

Alright thanks!

So Early would be Advanced then?  Cool

Now this problem will be fixed in the next patch that comes out correct?

Again thanks for your help!

I tried this, actually, Firesoul. It still didn't work right.

It listed the year right, but only gave me early/middle area ships still, at dates when it should have been advanced ships.

Well if you start in Late Era it will move on into ADV and start making the X-Ships. I did, however, see it make an X-Ship in late for the AI. It was the first mission of the campaign so I know it was Late era still.

Well it worked for me.  I start in the Advanced Era and get Advanced ships.  But the space/territory for the races is settup like the Early Era.

But hopefully this gets fixed.  I just like playing in the Advnaced Era instead of going from Late to Advanced.  And I know some people do that too.
