New frigate retexture: USS Swift
« on: March 31, 2003, 04:06:17 am »
This is a kitbash of the Chandley retexture I did. I've tried to make it as close to the Swift Dop Striker made
as possible. It's an odd little ship, but I've always liked it and now we have an updated version.

Will be released soon.

EDIT: Ok, its finished. I've added an LOD to this model. I got some complaints about the Northampton being a 40meg model. lol
Specs:

  • LOD 1 - 1693 polys 1024x1024 textures

  • LOD 2 - 720 polys 256x256 textures

This ought to reduce the load on everyone's sysem's and allow you to have a handful of these little guys running around in the distance.

FYI, all archive at NGS will be of the .rar variety henceforth.

She's uploading now. I'll make a page for her tomorrow.

LOL This was just a little renaming of files and move some nacelles around. I saw a post last night from someone in the  Moonraker Strikes Back  thread about how they were dying for the Swift and Remora.......so I decided to knock this one out real quick. All the textures were already done, so it only took about two hours.

I'll get the Remora done. I promise.

BTW, thanks for asking that question about Optimize and texture distorting. The answer is what got me to finally put an LOD in a model. I'd have never known what the hell Multi-Res was. lol

That was me, I saw your post about dying to have the Kirov, and I couldn't resist mentioning the Swift and Remora.  Excellent work on the Swift by the way, I am DYING to play with it.

NOOOOOOOO!!! I don't have rar and I can't get it (no money/job) - why can't you just use winzip or the default windows extraction thingamajig? Oh and I'm not gonna D/L it illegally so...

BTW - the Swift is looking very classy.

All is not lost.. I'll try downloading a .RAR off Pataflafla's site on my texturing system and try opening it.  If it works on here, I'll point you to ther program I use on this system (which is freeware).  It's a little funky with .RAR, but if it'll open one from Pataflafla's site.. then it should work for you.

The compression is better. This helps in several ways. I'm on dial up so it makes up loads easier. Many people have had problems with the server staying stable long enough to get some of those 7meg zips if they are on dial up.
On a archive that big, rar can be as much asa 2megs smaller.

BTW, WinRar will continue to work after the 40 day trial period. It still worked for me for over 90 days before I finally bought it. I think it just stops letting you make self-extracting archives and won't let you utilize some special features.
If you still have problems, though, feel free to email me an I can make special arrangements from time to time.

I'm building the web page now.

EDIT: OK, she's up now. Come and get it.

Screw that man Dave Mustaine rules! (though Marty Friedman was a better songwriter IMO) I wanted a sig that combined lyrics from 2 of my fav bands at the moment (there are many others) I think I'll change it for a purely Megadeth sig - something from Risk, which IMO was their best album and with their last one The World Needs a Hero Mustaine totally cocked up by trying to shy away from the experimental stuff on Risk and return to the thrash roots from Killing is my Business and Business is Good and Peace Sells but Who's Buying - unfortunatelly it just ended up as cheesy pop-rock stuff. That's probably why I think Load is Metallica's best album. Anywho nice to see someone noticed the sig
