The struts are just right . If this were for SFCII, OP, or SFCI I'd say it looks like a good missle cruiser because of the dome. (It looks like an AWACS) In SFC III it might be an anti-cloak sensor platform.

Thanks for the comments guys.  New pics. The main differences are a new bridge. I redid the struts. Note they now have round edges and taper down. PLus I moved the nacels in.

I actually remeshed the saucer, nacels,  and struts.  I redid the nacels and saucer mainly because where ever I had extrude it looked fine,  until I do HP's,  then I get shading around the extruded area.  Mackie I think that is where the mesh monkies you found on my Elk were. This one should be nice and clean.

I want to figure out a new window scheme.

I will try adding a roll bar to the Black Elk and see what it looks like with either a pod or 2 smaller nacels.

Dang- To me it looks like the struts are in too close now.  The struts look better if they curve right away though. Also the pod will get smaller me thinks.

Ok this last pic is another update.  The nacells are wider here. My textures on the secondary hull are way stretched.

Anyway, the design is done. I was going to make more taditional fed windows. The blue shows up better though.  Would most of you want them white like the norm or do you like the blue ones?  I intend to spend as much time detailing the textures as I did roughing them in and designing the mesh.  Gotta  make it better then my last one

With the struts wider this design looks real sharp from the top view.

The bridge looks a lot better.  I do think you should make the windows white like you're talking about.  The wider nacel pic looks good but I think a circular pod thingy would look better than an oval one.  Have you ever thought about making the roll bar angled?  Like 45 degrees to the back of the ship.

Vichama the pod is round. It looks oval when viewed from an angle.  After reflecting on the design. The upper struts that the pod rest on are completely impractical and would be a waste of building resources. Thus I placed seperate struts directly below the pod. Much more effiecient. I  gave the pod its own impulse engines. My reasoning is that pods with different purposes could be positioned and coupled to the struts in the field. This would eliminate having to be refitted at a star base. The pod you see is a weapons pod with phasers. Other pods would include a sensor pod with cloak detection ability.

Sandman -I'll let you know when I finish it. I will not rest until it is a good model  (no matter what 3d program was used)

I am looking at it as my 1st REAL release.  Meaning  it will be polished off. Like the nacels dimensions are too thick yet. Better textures and I try to get them on 2 bitmpas instaed of 3. I use 1024 X 1024 maps.  But do to the size they take up I have been releaseing 512,s .

Some of these pics are very small to reduce upload time

Awww.  I liked the ringed struts.  I was hoping you would have done a version with the pod and without the pod.  Oh well maybe next model.

Another varient. A very fast frigate.  Something didn't look right with original povd version.  Having the uppur roll bar smaller then the bottom helps.  I  will try putting  a smaller pod back on the smaller struts.  As big as it was before it was taking away from the sleek look of the ship.

Here is the smaller roll bar pod version.   Thinking or releasing this ship as a 3 pack.  I can't decide which rool bar pod version I like the best. Si I'll just give it a rest and came back to it later.

and a single nacell version just to cover all bases.

and a pic. Skinmans bops messed it up    Scaled at 320 meters. I use it as a F-NCC in my OP mod.  This is the SFC2 version.      Poly count 6100.

At least it's still in one piece after the BOP attack...CJ put my Gorgon throught the ringer in an attack on a starbase...poor little guy didn't make it. Looks good James.
