Yes you are correct.  But only when flying with Rom AI ... the real Rom players are much better.  And smarter.

Recommend the D5C.  It rocks all over the D7C's world.  Expanded disruptor arcs.  Accept no substitutes.

I was drawing rather heinously in my stock D5 (111 BPV) yesterday.  One mission (well, in thruth, the rest were just like it), it was my D5 and a Lyran frigate (cannot remember the variant) vs. a Mirak Z-CVL, CVE and a BC.  In case you're wondering...that's a lot of fighters to deal with in a D5.  My drones were largly useles (having only 20 and the OPFOR having enough AMD to handle two racks), but somehow I managed to pull that one off.  My ship was shot to hell and I had used every last consummable on board (so yes, I spent my "winnings" on refit)...and all the while I'm going..."Umm...HELLO!  111 BPV!"

Heheh....I can see why folks like to camp in drone boats for these missions, especially in early era.  You take less damage, use fewer consummables aside from free drones, so your net gain per mission is higher.  I basically was treading water in the D5.

I used to hate the D6D with a passion.  I had no use for a ship with one transporter.  It really doesn't matter how many transporters you have, anymore...because POLs have 12 marines on them and you'll kill the thing well before you capture it anyway.  Frigates with 16 marines...same deal.

Ran some missions with the D5C this morning.  Mission matching was a little more heinous as I was seeing usually two heavy cruisers and a CLV (the server just loves tossing those at you), but I found the missions more survivable in the D5C.  The extra power, B-racks and better shielding helped quite a bit.  I was probably only using a third to half of my earnings on repair and refit, as opposed to two-thirds or more...heheh.

One mission I really love is "Fleet Action."  Man that is a blast.  I remember a misison I played on Saturday...my D7C and three Lyran ships (CL or smaller) vs.  seven Fed ships (1 CC,  2 CAs.  2 CLs a DD and an FFG).  What a furball.  Before I knew it, I was the only left from my side vs. the three remaining Fed ships (CC, CL and DD).  I managed to pull that one out and was pleasantly surprised by a 1200 point prestige award.

I miss those days where you could actually capture ships reasonably well, though.  I found doing that to be more fun, challenging and rewarding.  Sometimes you still can if things break right, but it's not the matter of course that it used to be for Klingon players.  At least our ships turn well, I guess.  heheh...

Pretty much the only thing I use my transporters for is capturing freighters and T-bombs.  There was one mission where I hadn't resupplied yet (so I only had the default stock of drones) and had to kill a Mirak CS.  Its amd's and phasers handled all of my drones, so then I was stuck with my useless-to-shields ph2's and all 8 of my mines.  Having only one transporter is very annoying when you're trying to T-bomb something to death, but I got it timed so that EVERY MINE blew on the same shield, and all my phasers hit on the same shield as well.  Phaser-2's are worth something against bare hull, but not much else.  I won with few internals , and it took like 10-12 minutes.

Well, yeah..same here.  It didn't used to be that way, though.

I notice there's not much point in capturing freighters any more, either...and they all have to see 2-4 times more marines than they ever did, too.

Still...flying a D5C is a damned sight more fun that flying a D6D(B) or even a D7C (IMHO), matchups and marine compliments be damned.

Thanks, Dogmatix.   It's posts like this that make the work all worth while.  When I conceived of this mission I visualized a battle in the movie "BraveHeart" with both sides screaming at each at the start of the battle and then charging straight for each other. Then BLAM!! SMASH!! KAPOOEEY!!

The actual line-up you faced was:  8 Fed ships(CC, CA, CL, CL, DD, DD, FF, FF) vs  yourself plus (CA, CL, CL, DD, FF).

In this mission you win 1200pp for a victory at flat rates.  There is a payout for 1500pp when you are greatly out-numbered in PvP play.  New versions will have randomized starting positions for the enemy AI so that you don't face the same ships in exactly the same spot all the time.  This should help stop the AI from always reacting the same way in every battle.  Plus, as a cup-holder feature courtesy Chuut, for those late nights when you can hardly stay awake your ship will goto Red Alert at the 5 second mark.

I found the best matchups for this Fleet Action mission is to be a Lyran versus the Roms.  You just run over all the cloaked Roms with your ESG lawn-mower, LOL!!

Yes...although..I had a CA on my side?  I don't remember that.  It must have died quickly...heheh.

It just like that though....the two sides sped at each other at high speed and much damage was dealt in the ensuing melee.  It was awesome.  I remember seeing what looked like 20 proxies flying at the lead ship in our formation...maybe that was the CA.

VERY fun mission though...and the payoff makes it well worth your while.  Some missions I just avoid because I know they pay like crap, take a long time and really aren't that much fun.  The "Fleet Action" is probably tops on my list of fun missions, right now.

OK Maxillius, I will apologize in advance for this, but it has been eating at me ever since I first saw the title of this thread, so here goes:

YOU SUCK AT ROMULAN!

Ok all better.

Love,

LOL!!!  It's turning into one of the biggest ironies I've ever seen!  So far I'm better at Hydran AND Klingon than I am at Romulan... at least on the Dyna anyway.

BTW:  YOU JUST SUCK!

Is chat up? Or is there an RW or Teamspeak server being used?

Chat is up...I believe there's an RW channel going, but I don't know the address.  I haven't been able to get on RW during my playing time, so I haven't looked up the addy, yet.

Yep chat is up and RW channels are 24.153.61.253:3783/Alliance  and 24.153.61.253:3783/coalition  there are separate race channels to.  MyTuner.ini is posted in the original LB3 thread.

Ya know, i tried to make RW work, but it just wasnt happening.  Sure, I've never used it before.  Sure, it didnt make any sense.  But it tested all right, just couldnt figure out how to make it connect where i needed it to.
