Hey Firesoul...
« on: March 28, 2003, 01:47:19 pm »
Two requests:

1) Would you be willing to produce a loadout/system spec sheet for the new Romulan PF's that you added ala the Manual Additions file (or just add to the existing Manual Additions file) for easy reference?

2) Could you take a look at the mission Homeworld Bound Part 2 for the ISC? It seems to have a nasty habit of CTD. I had it do it to me three times. Twice it was when my fighters got too close to an enemy (within range 3 I think) so I thought it was that, but on the third time I didn't even launch them and it did it. I finally got through it. Also the Comm panel seems to have some usless hailing commands in it. I told the ships to target something and they just stopped dead in space. I found it was better not to give them any instructions at all. The other one was that you don't need to attack the SB (not that you'd have time to kill it and all the other ships before the ground transports arrive), but there are Comm commands for it as well. One is to lower the SB shields, which really comes in handy, but as I said you don't need to attack it at all. After you destroy the defending ships the transports can get through just fine. I would be cool if you did have to kill or capture the base, but then the transports need to show up later than they do. You need a pretty big ship to tackle that mission (or a fleet) already, so the difficulty level is good as it is. It just seems that the logic is a little jumbled here and there.

Thanks.

Do you have winzip installed?

If so, it should be as easy as a right click on "db" in
'C:\Program Files\Taldren Software Inc\Starfleet Command Orion Pirates\MetaAssets\'
.. to create an archive or .zip.

Then email it to me or soemthing.

Yikes! looking at the file I guess it does matter that I deleted it. I guess I can always play it again. Do you want me to? It should only take a few hours or so.

The invalid page fault itself isn't going to be useful to me..

.. I'll have to play th mission a few times, over and over, to try to make it crash.
When I do, I can start debugging it, the hard way.

Ok.. it crashed on me.
Let's see what I can do. I can't promise much since I'm not too sure what caused the crash.

Good enough. If you walk on eggs and pray to the right gods you can get through it w/o a CTD.

I did.. 3 times now. The first 2 with the original script itself.
The second with a little something written at the top of every "state" function I could find. That little something writes to a file which function it's in.

Code:

(...snip...)
tPlayerTeamBaseState::AtEdgeOfMap
tPlayerTeamBaseState::mOnTimedInterval
tPlayerTeamBaseState::AtEdgeOfMap
tPlayerTeamBaseState::mOnDamage
tPlayerNPC1TeamBaseState::mOnDamage
tPlayerTeamBaseState::mOnDamage
tPlayerNPC1TeamBaseState::mOnDamage
tPlayerTeamBaseState::mOnTimedInterval
tPlayerTeamBaseState::AtEdgeOfMap
tPlayerTeamBaseState::mOnTimedInterval
tPlayerTeamBaseState::AtEdgeOfMap
tPlayerTeamBaseState::mOnTimedInterval
tPlayerTeamBaseState::AtEdgeOfMap
tBaseVictoryState::mOnTransportedItem

Notice that it ends with something being transported from one ship to another.
I'll do another test now.

2 for 2! Ok. I think we've got our culprit.

Yep. Problem solved.
I need to recode my fix onto a clean version of the script, then post the fixed version up on the site.

.. then post in the forums.
