U.S.S. Sovereign -WIP-
« on: March 27, 2003, 09:50:37 pm »
Before you all start getting excited, no this isn't the big E. Contrary to Anduril's assumptions about my mental condition, I am not yet crazy enough to tackle that perfectionist's nightmare   This is, however, a Sovereign class, the prototype to be exact. Although it isn't canon, one popular idea floating around is that the Sovvie was on the design board for several years prior to First Contact and the prototype was in construction and underwent several stages of refitting. This is how I think she would look and if you don't buy that theory, it can be considered a newer subclass. I based this puppy on the design schematics by John Eaves along with a few other resources floating around. Anyways, enough backstory:

Not bad.  I really like this variant.  I was wondering though, did you consider changing the warp nacelle strut positions from slanting to the aft to slanting to the fore of the Starship (you do get what I'm saying, right)?  I'm just curious, as I kinda found that part of the Ent-E/Sovereign-class concept very interesting, and I liked it in such a design.  Well, no matter where this one goes, you've done the prototype justice, WZ.

BTW (if I may ask), any news on your Constitution-class (refit) WIP?

I didn't even think about sweeping the pylons forward, it looks fairly odd in the drawings imo. It tends to contrast with the swept back, streamlined appearance of the rest of the ship.

As for the Constitution, it will be done when its done and I'll naturally post pics of it when I feel it's nearing completion. Besides, we have a hundred of 'em floating around already.

It looks terrific. I have a feeling that before you're done you'll find some way to outdo yourself
on this one. You do plan on sometime tackling the pure canon one? Don't you? Can you sense the proverbial
"Can of Worms" openning here?

I'll undoubtedly tackle the canon version someday but right now I still have some semblance of common sense left

More work done, mostly from redoing/touching up already existing textures and tweaking the mesh a bit more:

Well it is beautiful, and very close to the Sovereign's final design.  I dont see why you dont try to make a full "Nemesis" Sovereign, you could do a very good job with it.
